This is the third time I’ve prepped Kelsey for a show. To touch on the key difference this prep verses our last two: She has a lot more muscle which allows for her to eat more, diet longer and therefore the ability to get leaner, as well as burn more calories at rest.

To say I’m happy with how steady her weight is coming off is an understatement. I’m fucking ecstatic.
.
You don’t know this until you prep for a show and really try to get to your leanest physique but most people will realize progress will happen at its own rate. Many times it’s not linear. There are certain things you can do to set yourself for a successful prep. I can say hands down Kelsey has set herself to have a very successful competition this year by keeping her calories high, cardio low, and mentality strong during her offseason leading up to this prep.

Competing and getting this lean is not maintained easily and comes with a cost. The more restrictive and “diet-y” your offseasons are, the harder your prep will probably be. Don’t gas out trying to maintain your stage weight for 9 months between shows. It’s not only not helping you but will hurt your dieting longevity which is a large reason many women have to pull out of prep.

I’m very proud of Kelsey for continuing to push herself not just when she’s getting ready for her shows. I attribute a lot of her muscle gain to her drive in her offseason and allowing herself to gain a little bit of weight. She’s put herself in a position year round where her body is working towards a specific goal whether that be cutting or building.
I’ve worked with Kelsey since March 2015. She is one of my OG clients. A lot of people say they want to do what she’s done but can’t actually handle what it takes. It’s not easy. It’s slow af and comes with a lot of doubt if you’re not patient.

There are very few natural female competitors who can build a significant amount of muscle between show preps. No matter what the future holds for her, she’s going to have the ability to do more and longer by walking around with more muscle.

A trip to the dollar store for excedrin turned into #nope #nottoday as I sadly walked away from the candy aisle, leaving behind my beloved sour patch kids. 😂😂😂😩#thestruggleisrealyall Temptation to stray away from these gains is everywhere. I'm usually pretty good about sticking to the plan. But if one of three things come along: Good ole Starbucks venti caramel macchiato with EXTRA caramel drizzle, Mountain Dew, or candies like sour patch kids and airheads. I have a hard time saying no to the sweet tooth sometimes! I can only stay perfect for so long... 😆😁💁🏻So if you're ever in the face of temptation whether on prep, or simply trying to stick to clean eating just think to yourself, "nope, not today".
