I've been *trying* to perfect my breathing and bracing under the guidance of @bradenjenkins. I'm so confident that perfecting this one item will add 30# to my squats without adding even a scrap of strength.

Small little tweaks are making a big difference and boy is it hard to un-do habits I've had for years. Our first session we literally worked 2 hours on breathing and bracing properly against the belt.
.
This week I'm working not only on pushing my belly breath up & out against my belt (down and out makes me pee πŸ˜…) during the entire movement, but also initiating the squat with an equal bend of the knee, hip and torso at the same time and same degree to keep my bracing engaged top to bottom and my midsection in a sexy straight, neutral line.
.
Moral of the story, no matter how much you think you know, learn more. No matter how much you "got it,"... get more. Life is big and full wisdom. Pour a big cup and stay humble. ✌🏼

Last night I tested my 1 rep max on squats. I haven't tested this in over a year πŸ™ˆ the gym has basically been my therapy for the last year but since this spring I've gotten back into being consistent with lifting and macros. Decided to add a speed/accessory day to my lifting cycle. Shown here are my "heavy" sets for squats and bench.

Heavy in this case is anything above which there is a visible decline in speed.
.
Why program a speed day? πŸ€”
.
1.Force=massβœ–οΈacceleration... if I have a "light" weight on the bar but am moving the weight quickly i.e. "Speed squat"... I am increasing force production.
.
2. By increasing the force produced, I am still doing "work" but am not taxing my body or muscles as much as I would moving a heavy weight "slowly". .

I was feeling incredibly frustrated with my deadlifts all summer long, tweaking my technique from week to weekπŸ™ƒ Two weeks ago I went to @repthereds to help me dial in on my technique. Needless to say, he fine tuned a lot of things, and 2 weeks ago I could barely get 185# off the floor. He assured me that, "I may go backwards in weight before I can go forward." I probably shed a few tears after that and told myself I would be ok if I didn't hit 250# when I tested my 1RM this week. To my excitement, @repthereds was totally right, and I got a 15# PR, bringing my new deadlift 1RM to 265# (all without needing a belt and utilizing proper bracing!) You can see I was barely able to contain my excitement after already maxing out my squat and bench earlier this week (grabbing PR's in both of those) with a 225# squat and 125# bench 😍

Graduated to the big girl plates for squats at 135, 175 for deadlift, and 97.5 for bench - because every bit counts! 😝 I'm super proud of the gains I've made since starting weight training 7 months ago and I'm still improving form while also lifting heavier! πŸ’ͺ🏽

I keep forgetting to film my lifts, so here's one from last Sunday. I did heavy deadlifts and it was awesome. Started with semi high pulls and ended up with barely getting them up, haha. It was good though. Tonight was cleans, pause squats and jerks on the jerk block. Quite a successful day, I must say. Also, who would've thought that the frequency of waves can affect the damage of certain buildings and not others during an earthquake. And what is going on in the world lately, is the end coming? I say we live and lift like it's our last day and training sesh! Hi-yah! Ok. Good night. Thanks.

It's hard to tell in this video, but the bar I'm using bends into an arch with its highest point a couple inches above the outer edges where you grip the bar. It's called a "Duffalo" bar named after its creator @mad_scientist_duffin.

With this bar, when you touch it to your chest your hands are actually a couple inches below your chest creating a deficit situation.
.
This will make it harder to stay tight and to move the weight from the bottom (and makes you stronger from your chest position. πŸ’πŸΌ)
.
The chains make the weight heaviest at lockout and the bar less stable.
.
I've said it in past posts, but if you missed it, to gauge your speed either watch your film or have a friend assist you utilizing this trick πŸ‘‰πŸΌ try to complete the lockout on the speed reps as fast as or faster than you can say "one one thousand" as quickly as you can.
.
Only add weight as long as you can maintain that speed and don't stress the weight. Just work on your positions, tightness and Mac effort speed.
.
When you first start, pay law attention to staying super tight. It's super easy to get crazy and just start throwing things around and losing positions. Keep. It. Tight! Also, don't let ego get in the way. It's pointless to go too heavy on this work or you won't be speedy at all. 😿
