57 minutes of pure, blissful agony.
Today has been such a special day for me. Not everything went my way, and the results sheet doesn't necessarily make for nice reading, but I gave it all I had and have no regrets. Climbing through the massive crowds on the switchbacks of Mt Floyen was almost a spiritual experience. One group even took it upon themselves to chant my name, which was both ridiculous and amazing.
I appreciate every message of support that I received today, and I could not have done this without the help of so so many. I guess it's atypical to dedicate a last-placed performance, but this one was for all of you; for my partner Jerrine who has never stopped believing in me, my family, my friends, my coach, current and former teammates, the Singapore cycling community, the Providence cycling community, and every person that I've ever had the pleasure of riding a bike with. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I'm just a dude with very little natural ability and a blatant disregard for self-embarrassment, and today my name and country appeared on a results sheet alongside (far below) some of the legends of our sport. I believe, wholeheartedly, that there is no reason why, someday, a Singaporean name can't sit on the top of such a list.
