Guys I have been reading this book non stop since I received a copy in exchange for my honest review a few weeks ago. I have to say I have never done a book review before mainly because I have trouble finishing books but this one I had trouble putting down!
Whether you have a skin condition or not, use only a moisturizer or 50 lotions and potions at night this book is for you!
Dr. Skotnicki’s message is loud and clear. Everything you put on your skin represents a potential problem, an intervention. She describes by citing well documented studies and experiences from her own practice that using too many beauty and skincare products can accumulate and cause a phenomenon called cumulative irritation. She is advocating here (which is SO refreshing) for less is more. To move away from the idea of a miracle product and go back to trusting our bodies as much as possible
In chapters 1-4 Dr. Skotnicki talks about how nowadays everyone has some type of sensitive or reactive skin, whether is in the face or the body things like dermatitis, eczema, rosacea, dandruff are on the rise. She explains brilliantly where hygiene got taken to the extreme of protecting us from stuff that makes us sick to actions designed to make us look better and more attractive damaging the body’s natural armour. All of this mixed with corporations such as L’Oreal, Procter and Gamble, Uniliver, Colgate etc trying so brutally to compete against each other by offering more and more options (loaded with allergens such as fragrance) is causing serious harm so please be VERY skeptical about marketing. Do you know what that coconut passion flower fruit scented shampoo and conditioner are doing to your face? Exactly! (This applies for the green beauty world too)
