So we were perusing the used Blu rays at our local shop and I saw Bounty Killer (2013) with a price tag of €1. I thought "I've never heard of it but how bad can it be? It has guns, a beautiful lady on the cover, she's blood-soaked on the back cover..." and the answer? Bloody brilliant!
The story is pretty straightforward: in a post-apocalyptic future, corporations have turned evil and the executives are hunted by Bounty Killers. As it began, we weren't sure what to expect, was this going to be some trashy low budget crapfest? It stars Matthew Marsden, the stunningly beautiful Christian Pitre as the titular characters and both are fantastic in their roles. The supporting cast are great as well.
Based on a graphic novel, this film takes influences from Mad Max, spaghetti westerns, Robert Rodriguez' Desperado, horror, comedy, comic books, you name it. I have to say that Pitre steals the movie: she's a bad-ass and looks gorgeous whilst mowing down bad guys in her miniskirt, boots with spurs, and wonderful Mod makeup, but never being exploited. There's also great comedy relief from supporting characters.
This movie is hands-down the best €1 I've ever spent on a movie. It's hilarious, action-filled, gory/bloody as hell and has probably one of my absolute all time favourite kills. I would pay full price for this movie and would if I could right now. Yes, it has a low budget and is noticeable in parts, but that's part of the charm. The gore effects are spectacular. Please please please seek this out and buy it.
