- Lingual braces with a twist 🌀. Lingual braces also called invisible/hidden braces are placed behind the teeth surfaces near the tongue 👅. Besides being hidden these braces may have other benefits. When compared with clear aligners like Invisalign they're more efficient for complex tooth movements like correcting rotations, adjusting teeth heights, and closing extractions spaces ♻️. Even if oral hygiene is not followed, which by the way must be maintained specially with braces, any discoloration that occurs such as white spots will be on the inside of the teeth where it isn't visibile 🌫. It does however take a few weeks to get used to these braces near the tongue. The brackets and wires will feel a little rough in the beginning and may affect speech for a while. Lingual braces are also more difficult to keep clean. In fact if a patient has periodontal problems, lingual braces may actually make things worse 🥊. These braces may not be suitable for everyone for example patients with short crowns 👑. Your orthodontist will determine if lingual braces are right for you 👨⚕️.
