A great start to our Autumn in Algonquin Photography workshop! @chadbarryphotography and I team up a couple times a year to bring fellow enthusiasts throughout the park. Last night was a great start watching this bull seek out his mate during the rut! Did I told you how fun it is to play hide and seek with these cute endemic geckos?!β €

Here’s a tip to spot them: they love overlapping leaves such as those of the Vacoas plant. When the sun is up, that’s the place to look for them.β €

Oi, Bob, you’ve got a little something on your chin there eh? This little fella lives just beyond my backyard and sometimes he comes up to visit...but usually it’s just to steal trees. In fact, I even have some photos of Sgt. Pepper meeting him in the backyard, it was a pretty funny encounter!

These Burrowing Owls love it when it rains...at least for a little while. They do seem to have enough of it once they are totally saturated. Photographing them in the rain was so much fun, though not without its challenges. This shot was with a slow (1/125) shutter speed. #bestofwildlife #bestwildlife #owl #cuteowls #motionblur #motionblurphotography #lovetherain #wildlifephotography #wildlifeplanet #floridabirds

One of the most beautiful butterflies is the colourful Papilio palinurus or emerald swallowtail. Its colours are made by microstructures, not by pigment. They reflect the blue and yellow light away from the wings which perceives in human eyes as green..

Whos afraid of the wolves? In Europe the comeback is seen controversial ..as a predator on top of the foodchain it effects the trophic cascades and even the carbon circle...

It won’t be long before these guys disappear for the winter...good thing I got lots of photos of them over the summer! 😊

Hearing these guys bugle is pretty awesome. The elk are active and sometimes pretty visible in the early morn or late evening. Majestic beasts. #plantstrong #justsayin

I started out watching one Bald Eagle by the Madison River. Patiently waiting for it to catch a fish. Which it eventually did! THEN - from where I don’t know - another Bald Eagle appeared and tried to steal the others catch! Eventually the dual ended up with neither having a meal, because the fish was dropped back into the river. Just super amazing to watch. Cool info/factoid - one of the Bald Eagles had bands on each leg. Which I could indentify with my photography, by color only. So, I reported the banding to this website:

Patuxent Wildlife Research Center Bird Banding Laboratory

pwrc.usgs.gov

Simple, concise, and at the end of reporting you can include photos to help aide in the process. They’ll send you an electronic certificate of appreciation that will tell you a little about the birds history too! Very helpful and very cool. β€’
