This image is of a Little Egret photographed at Alfred Cove, Perth Western Australia with my Nikon D800E and Nikon 80-400mm zoom lens.  I have come to realise that many of my best images are taken on heavy overcast days.  The quality of light created by a thunderous sky can be extremely beautiful.  The cloud cover acts to reflect the available light in all directions so it is soft yet clear and highlights detail with an intricacy not possible in direct sunlight.  I arrived at Alfred Cove before dawn on a day when the tide was extremely low.  When this happens a sandbar emerges from the river and you can walk right out into the middle surrounded either side by water.  The birds  love the low tides as fish get trapped in the shallows and are easier to hunt.  The Little Egret was fishing.  His technique was interesting and extremely beautiful.  He would fly short distances and land, then jump and dance around in the water, turning this way and that unpredictably fast.  As he did the little fish were frightened into movement and the Egret would pounce with a flurry of pure white feathers and indescribable grace.  This image was taken as he pounced dramatically to catch a tiny fish.  I love his intense yellow eye and the intricate silvery splash which contrasts with the otherwise still glassy water. #planetbirds #wildlifeplanet #seeaustralia #earthcapture #wildlifeplanet #naturyst #birdsonearth #bestbirdshots #exclusive_bird #eye_spy_birds #kings_birds_ #nuts_about_birds #bird_freaks #best_birds_of_ig #your_best_birds #bb_of_ig #birds_of_instagram #bestnatureshots #best_birds_of_world #bird_brilliance #feather_perfection #birds_adored #birdlifeoz #melissazappelli #melissazappelliphotography #wildwingimages #birdphotography #wildlifephotography #littleegret #egret

South Stack Sunset, after an eery day of misty cloud covered Anglesey the sun fought through right at the bitter end.

This image is of a Corella and was taken at Herdsman Lake, Perth, Western Australia.  I often go the lake to photograph waterbirds along the shore line.  Coreallas are a type of parrot commonly found in Western Australia.  They band together in large raucous flocks and seem to delight in having fun together with all sorts of aerial acrobatics and crazy antics.  They are fascinating to watch, especially around other bird species.  Corellas are extremely mischievous and seem to delight in annoying other creatures for their own amusement.  On the day this image was captured I was photographing a Great Egret perched in a tree at the edge of the lake.  I heard a flock of Corellas coming my way.  Suddenly the air was full of noisy squawking and flapping of hundreds of birds.  A few of them spotted the Great Egret and swirled around his head dive bombing him.  He flew off.  I turned my attention to the Corellas and captured this on win flight, hovering above my head in search of a new source of fun. #planetbirds #wildlifeplanet #seeaustralia #earthcapture #wildlifeplanet #naturyst #birdsonearth #bestbirdshots #exclusive_bird #eye_spy_birds #kings_birds_ #nuts_about_birds #bird_freaks #best_birds_of_ig #your_best_birds #bb_of_ig #birds_of_instagram #bestnatureshots #best_birds_of_world #bird_brilliance #feather_perfection #birds_adored #birdlifeoz #melissazappelli #melissazappelliphotography #wildwingimages #birdphotography #wildlifephotography #corella
