My mother in law gave this badass bitch a full tuneup and it made almost cry to hear it hum like a bird. This Bernina Record 730 is solid steel and worth is weight in gold. Produced in the 60’s, it runs better than the new heavy duty digitals. I’m so blessed to have this original beauty passed on to me by its original owner. Azalea’s next in line for this baby! Thanks, #omastuijfzand. #bestpresents #love #bernina #berninarecord #madeinswitzerland

Very lucky eBay find, a #bernina830record suitable 3B buttonhole slide foot, it makes my buttonholes so much more accurate!

Meet Bernie. She's my 1966 Bernina Record 730 and I LOVE her. I was generously gifted my first sewing machine for Christmas in 2010, a Brother. We had a complex relationship. Then last summer I finally gave into my mum (who had been badgering me for ages about trying out a Bernina Record for myself, she buys them on eBay "for parts" and then mends them and now she has at least 3, and myself and my sister in law both have one each too) and I have not looked back. She sews thick fabrics, leather, sheer fabrics, jersey, sews on buttons, has an incredible number of feet and is WONDERFUL. The only thing I return to Brother for is buttonholes these days. Bernie doesn't eat fabric, she's sturdy, made of all metal parts and when she sews she PURRS 💕 #BERNINALove #sewing #sewingmachine #BERNINA125 #berninarecord #fanshare via @ratherbesewing

Almost late for day 6! I was having a bad day today so I took a few minutes to slow down and do some machine maintenance. Since today is Inside for #fallforcostume I thought I would show the inside of my machine.
I own a 1979 830 record from @berninausa and let me tell you, this machine is a powerhouse!! It's easy to maintain on my own and I never find a need to take it in for anything super major!

Slow fashion, to me, is coming to mean taking the time to do it right. When I jumped back into sewing last year, it was all about quick projects in cheap fabric. But that is no longer stimulating my sense of purpose. Now, I’m trying to remind myself to follow the process. In this example, the pink and silver is my “muslin” or “toile”. The blue will be the final product. This is for a client, and the fitting and adjusting and fitting and adjusting is so important. It can be so hard to be patient, but I can’t wait to see the finished look!

#meandmybaby il y en a bien dès models récent qui me font de l’œil mais elle est moi ce sera juste à ce qu’elle rende l’âme ou je craque et j’agrandi la famille 🤔 #bernina #berninarecord #bestenähmaschinederwelt

Hier gehts schon wieder rund! Und was macht Ihr so? #zwergenstoffe #bernina #berninarecord #oldschool #nähenfürjungs #nähenistsoschön #nähenmachtgesund

Hidden binding on woven fabric is a useful technique that gives a narrow finished edge. I’m binding the edge of a patch pocket in this video. 😊

#deco #couturedebutant #berninarecord #jaune #menthe #projetcoutureencours

I don’t normally share photos of my children here but I am really chuffed with how this sewing project turned out and photographing it from the back or cutting the head off doesn’t quite do it justice
:
This is a wool blanket bought for $10 at the op shop, lined with a floral patterned flannelette sheet bought for $2
:
The pattern is something I came up with using a 1970’s poncho pattern as a base but I reshaped the hood to get a pixie point and instead of a zipper opening I created the heart shaped flap which fixes with a button. It’s trimmed with a cotton edging braid that I’ve had in my stash for a few moons which really makes the heart pop. Just out of curiosity- would anyone want to buy this pattern if it was available? Thinking of doing something on Etsy
:
This is the first thing I have made on my new sewing machine bought from @kylieandthemachine (an inspirational sewer who makes most of her own wardrobe #aspirations )
:
The ‘new’ machine is actually a 1981 Bernina Record 830 which I was actively looking for after much research into machines. Basically I wanted something that was built to last, that wasn’t computerised, that was completely solid and would last me for life. I can tell you it is the BEST! I love it and it’s a joy to sew on despite being nearly as old as me. I can tell she’s going to be a trusty friend. Next project will be something for myself which I haven’t done in years
