Warrior poses are a base for many standing, sitting and lying poses and there can be a 100 different compensations we can do when it comes to any warrior pose, but I will show just a few. Today we are looking into WARRIOR 2 or VIRABHADRASANA II and the most common compensations.
❓HOW DO WE COMPENSATE IN WARRIOR 2 POSE❓
When we want to go down deeper than our body is ready to go, we tend to stick our butt out, push our chest to the front, shift our weight forward to the standing leg and since our leg is under a lot of pressure we push the knee in and totally miss the important parts of this pose- stabilization, hip opening, balancing and strengthening.
❓ WHY DO WE COMPENSATE IN WARRIOR 2 POSE❓
💪 Lack of strength in our lags, especially hip abductors and rotators.
💪 Lack of strength in our core.
⭕ Lack of stability in our pelvis.
🚫Lack of awareness of what we should do in this pose. 🚫 Lack of awareness of our pelvic floor and tailbone mobility. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Warrior poses represent the strength we all have that can become buried deep inside and forgotten. Warrior poses prepare us for everyday life for ups and downs keeping us grounded, strongly standing on our feet.
Compensations are not miss alignments. They are stages that most yogis go through in their practices in one or every pose. They depend on many things and can be various. They are workaround that we use when we come to a deadpoint. The difference between alignment cues and compensation is when you are compensating you are not WRONG.
