Recently coconut oil has received a lot of bad press. Headlines now trying to suggest it's as bad for you as saturated fats (note... this article also displayed a portion of chips which is hardly a good representative of a Saturated fat). There is an excellent clip on Facebook by Ben Coomber and in summary explains that this is not new news ... the press have been batting this about for a long time. He emphasised how important balance is... a high diet in any fat, saturated, polyunsaturated or omega 3 is bad, but a balance of all 3 is the winner!
The good thing coming out of this news is the highlighting of the benefits of the Mediterranean diet.... Lean meats and fish with small fatty protein sources, oils, olives, nuts and seeds and a small amount of dairy...
The fitness industry current "in trend" thing is to add butter and coconut oil to everything... but best is balance! No harm is using coconut oil if your diet is quite low in saturated fats 👌🏻plus it's yummy and an antibacterial... (we already highlighted other coconut oil benefits in a previous post if you are interested)
So the take home message here is everything is good for you in moderation and we just need balance!
