I've been told to wear a lower cut shirt/shorter skirt to make a negotiation go my way. I've been treated as though my brain is irrelevant and just gets in the way of my physical assets. I've been fired for turning down sexual advances and standing up for other women I've worked with. I've been told I'm too "aggressive", "opinionated", and "difficult" for having both a voice and standards. I've been cat-called, sexualized, harassed, assaulted, and raped. I've been guilty of allowing some of these behaviours out of fear, nervousness and confusion. But none of those things define me; they define the individuals who have treated me (and so many others) that way.
Me, too. But it's so far past time to stop putting the burden on women to label themselves and start expecting the perpetrators to be named - loudly - and condemned by all of us. It's so far past time for all of us to demand better and create a safe and equal environment for all.
Yes, this is a beer account and I promise that 99.9% of posts will continue to be about the beer. But some issues demand to be addressed and voiced, and this is one of them ✌🏼
