This beer is a bit of an ugly duckling. But Dark Swan does grow up to be quite a savory, unique ale. Brewed with grapes and the gratuitously hopped, this is a sour beer that clearly fits within the Lagunitas mold. It pours a vibrant purple, and the grapes are apparent as soon as you sip. In the end, the grape flavor is a mix between a Pinot Noir and Grape Kool Aid. There is a tartness, but it's not puckeringly sour. There is no funk or oak, leading me to believe it's a monster kettle sour. Finally, a dose of citrusy dry hop flavor more akin to an IPA develops. Still, this hodgepodge of flavors coalesces into a nice melange that strike a harmony. Even if one of those flavors is Grape Kool Aid.
