BOTOX 101. Ever wondered how Botox works ???🤔
. . .
Botox or Botulinum toxin type A, is made from the bacteria that causes botulism. Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity.
. . .
The arrows ⬆️⬇️ indicate the direction of the pull of the muscle. These muscles can be paralyzed to stop that direction of pull. For example, injection below the eyebrow stops the downward pull of that muscle and causes the eyebrow to rise. ..
Over time lines can become static/etched in lines which are evident even when the face is at rest 😱. Of course some movement is important to allow for expression and conveying emotion.
Botox can be used to relax these muscles and create a smoother appearance to the overlying skin 🙌🏼. Even if you have no static lines yet, this is a great preventative treatment to stop those lines and wrinkles forming
The arrows pointing up indicate levator muscles ⬆️ and those pointing down the depressors ⬇️ . The relationship between these muscles can be described as a tug of war, so when treating with Botox care must be taken with the dosage and position of injections. This is not a one size fits all treatment. Every face is different and your injector should always be mindful of treating your individual anatomy to achieve the most natural and flattering result. ..
Treatment with anti wrinkle injections can last between 3-4 months before full movement returns. The good news is that with repeated anti wrinkle injections approx every 4-6 months the muscles become weaker over time, resulting in less lines and wrinkles as you age👏🏽. Also, many find that they can go longer periods before needing further maintenance.
