Several thoughts came to mind during this weekend'a readings. But, the biggest thought I had centered on the Gospel Reading from Matthew 20:1-16. In the Gospel we hear about the laborers who work a full day, only to see their counterparts who worked for about an hour (my interpretation) receive the same amount of pay as the full day laborers. And, understandably, the full-day workers get a little upset.
.
.
.
What struck me, though, was how applicable this is to our eternal reward, and our goal of entrance into heaven! God reveals Himself to each of us on His own time, and how easily it could be for me to be wounded if I felt another, "newer" Christian jumped the line to what I felt was my birthright - my heritage. .
.
.
And, yet, what does Christ say about the last being first? That *the last shall be first* to enter the Kingdom of heaven! Go back to the beatitudes, folks - those who struggle, those who mourn, those who face obstacles will find themselves richly, and timely, rewarded when it comes to the end of our earthly lives! .
.
.
So, if you are like me, and sometimes struggle with wondering how someone else appears to deserve something you felt entitled to, I'm here to say you're normal for feeling that way. But, I'm also here to challenge you - to recognize the gift you have been given in waiting for God to reveal His plan for you. If He has revealed Himself, and His reward to another person first, it doesn't mean you will receive the shaft. His love is plenty big enough to go around!
.
.
.
Isaiah 55:8 sums it up perfectly, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord." He will not abandon us, and He has great plans for each and every one of us.
.
.
.
Be patient for His goodness to unfurl.

I don't typically talk about Saints or those on the path to Sainthood. I find the topic a little odd to discuss - for reasons I struggle to articulate. I've never had a saint (or a soul waiting to be declared a saint in the Catholic Church) really register on my radar.
.
.
.
At least, not until recently. After a series of incidences, I texted a trusted friend all the reasons why I felt Venerable Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen would not leave me alone. And, asked for her recommendation on a book.
.
.
.
She recommended, "A Life Worth Living," along with encouraging me to look up YouTube videos of his segments. While I haven't done the latter, yet, I am (slowly) making my way through his book. .
.
.
To say it is speaking to me would be an understatement. I have so many thoughts swirling in my head, and I want to get them out! But, they are still jumbled thoughts for now.
.
.
.
So, let me leave you with a quote which struck my heart today, and has almost made me cry. I have seen the quote before - but, reading it in context of "How Mothers are Made," makes the quote all the more beautiful. Such simplicity, and yet so profound. For Mary truly did hold Heaven in her arms.
.
.
.
She held our Savior in her arms. She saw Love and loved Love, for the sake of us. .

Today was a Mass with just the Mom 'n Kids day! However, it was also a day which saw a Mass said outside, and a great time meeting others in our Catholic community, encouraging them to join our local Catholic women's group.
.
.
.
Today, I was reminded of my love for St. Peter. He was just so human. So real. So... me! He loved our Lord fiercely, but yet, he screwed up a LOT! And, our Lord forgave him - every. single. time. Our Lord believed in Peter, even when Peter didn't see his strength in himself. .
.
.
Peter never gave up trying to follow our Lord with faith and love. He screwed up, he owned it, and he tried to set things right again when he needed to do so.
.
.
.
So, in My Sunday Best, I am contemplating the similarities between Peter and myself. I am also praying I have the courage in my Faith to continue to seek to do my best, and to turn to our Lord for forgiveness when I falter.
.
.
.
St. Peter, pray for us!
.

Sometimes, a mom just has to recognize - there are forces larger than herself at play in her house. Like the forces of imaginations at work, the forces of love put into every act, and the forces of giggles when children hear her "fake yells" about a dinosaur in the bathroom sink, heading for us all. Where will you find the forces at play in your life today? #beautifulcamouflage #bctgp #momlife

Today, I had two blog posts go live regarding Mary, the Blessed Mother. Today is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a day to celebrate the Catholic dogma that Mary, upon her earthly death, was assumed body and soul into Heaven. Check out my blog post at Beautiful Camouflage, and my post over @everydayediths to see my thoughts on this beautiful woman.

Today kicks off the 54 Day Novena for our nation. Now, more than ever, I feel the need to buckled down and pray this Novena. I am going to begin today. Will you join me?
.
.
.
Our nation's problems won't be solved with just prayer. Yet, prayer will transform us... bring us closer to Christ. And, in doing so, will change the way we look act, and act toward, those we meet along our journey in life. .
.
.
Evil is real. The only way to banish its presence is to acknowledge the darkness - call it out! The only way we will defeat it is to shine a beacon of light into the darkness - calling in the brightest light of Christ. Let Christ dwell in your hearts and lives, brothers and sisters. Let Christ's light shine through you, as I hope I allow His to shine through me.
.
.
.
And, don't forget to be fed by His word on this beautiful celebration of Mary's life, death, and Assumption today!

This morning, as we passed through the military installation, we yielded for a soldier in the crosswalk.
.
.
From the back seat, in the same voice you typically hear the beginning of a "Why did the chicken..." joke, my son piped in, "Mommy, why did the soldier cross the road?" I chuckled and replied, "I don't know... to get to the other side?"
.
.
And, made me wonder - what's the best comeback for "Why did the soldier cross the road?"
.
.
Best/funniest answer gets bragging rights until the next time I have a joke question!

Life can sometimes be brutal. It can drag us down. Life can get heavy. And, for moms, there is a certain expectation that things must go perfectly... at all times.
.
Yesterday was one of those "horrible, no good, very bad days." My husband had been out of town since the day we returned from vacation (he's back now), the kids are still staying up until about 11 PM as they try to readjust to East Coast time (from the vacation I briefly blogged about earlier this week), I had unexpected news about a knee injury I have been nursing for the better part of two months, and my children have been running rampant because, well, they are small children and mom can't chase them too easily. Top it off, I lost my car and house keys for almost 24 hours... only to find them in the front door of the house. .
After finding the "lost" keys, I prepared to take the garbage out to the curb, literally running on fumes. Until I realized yesterday was Wednesday, and garbage gets picked up Wednesday mornings.
.
And, all I could do was find some humor in the week... find some humor in the day... find some humor in the situation. Which led to the creation of this little picture. 😉
.
Because life is going to get rough and tumble. We're going to all have those days (or weeks) where nothing goes right! But, when we take a moment to find some humor, some beauty, some brightness in our day - or week - our spirits are automatically lifted!
.
Today is a new day... I am a hot mess, I am running on fumes, and life is tough right now. But, I am choosing to find the beauty in the hot mess, through the fumes, and in the midst of tough stuff. And, I am grateful for all of the beautiful mess of my life.
.
Will you join me in embracing the mess in your life today? Will you join me in finding the humor in your day today? Will you join me in finding the beauty in your life, and the little moments today? .

So often, our society focuses on the individual's will - "doing what I want, which will make me happy." We have a tendency to put our desires ahead of another person's...
.
.
.
Then, many of us become parents, and we are hit with a reality check. Life isn't *all about us* - not in the slightest! There are sleepless nights, tantrums, and little human desires to contend with every time we turn around.
.
.
.
Today, my daughter requested bubbles as I finished the dishes. I almost said no. But then, I realized, there was no reason to discourage her excitement... it's a cheap thrill, which will keep her busy and entertained for a few minutes. It's also a battle not worth fighting. I wanted to indulge her little world - because in her developmental stage, life *is* truly all about her.
.
.
.
So, I made the bubbles.
.
.
.
Today's encouragement is to recognize the little moments we can put our mommy hats aside, and bask in the beauty that is our children's innocence. They don't maintain their innocence for long, and their joy is infectious. So, moms, make the bubbles. Play the toys. Read a book. See the world through your children's eyes.
.
.
.
You won't regret it!

Today's Mass experience was full of highlights. That said, I will limit My Mass Takeaway here on IG/FB to three thoughts.
.
.
.
Our chaplain said, "The most important decision you make in your life is how you respond to God's word." Wow. So true, when we stop to think about it. How we respond to God's word shapes the people we ultimately become. So, let's all assess how we've responded to God's word, and adjust our course as fitting.
.
.
.
"The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit." This part of the Gospel stood out, and made me assess the roots of my anxieties... from where do they come? And, going back to a couple weeks ago - if God has my back, should I not hand control of my anxieties over to him?
.
.
.
Lastly, the chaplain reminded us of the reading from Isaiah, "God's words are like the rain falling during growing season." Upon reflection, I prayed, "May our souls be like the fertile soil - waiting, thirsting, and ready to soak up God's everlasting word."

See that red candle lit? It's called a Chancel Lamp (or Sanctuary Lamp), and is lit to let us know Christ is present in the Tabernacle. Just like the Chancel Lamp, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is here to remind us Christ is present... waiting for us to embrace Him.
.
.
.
Confession doesn't have to be big and scary. It doesn't have to spin us into anxiety. It doesn't have to make us question His love and mercy. Instead, it's a healing Sacrament. It's a time where we meet Jesus face to face, to receive His mercy, but also His wisdom and love. .
.
.
I went to Confession today, and was anxious heading in. For the first time in longer than I can remember, I didn't sit face to face. Instead, I opted for a little anonymity - with a priest who doesn't know me, and doesn't know my voice. It felt as though it was just me and Jesus. Exactly what my soul needed. .
.
.
I know I can confess my sins to God any day, any time, any where. But, what my soul doesn't know, is whether or not it has had its relationship repaired and corrected with God when I confess to Him in the privacy of my own thoughts and prayers. Today, as I prepare to receive Christ in the Eucharist tomorrow, my soul knows it is as close to God as it can be while on earth. And, I want that feeling of confidence for everyone! .
.
.
So, if it has been weeks, months, or even years, take a moment to consider going back to the healing sacrament. It may be scary. But, knowing He was there to guide the conversation and to tell me what I knew I needed to hear through the priest, was invaluable. Knowing God is present to hear you and counsel you in times of doubt is reward in and of itself!

This week, I have caught my two kids doing things I would rather they not. But, let's take a look at what they are *really* doing, shall we? .
.
.
My planner has scribbles on almost every. single. page - a gift from a little girl who sees her mom do a ton of writing every day. I could get angry and fume at her coloring (yet another) page, or I could take a moment to recognize her innocence, and how she's "writing like mommy!" .
.
.
My son, on the other hand, doesn't like to write or practice his letters. He'd rather do anything else in the world! I could get angry and fume about the letter he's just left on the pillar outside our house, or I could take a moment to marvel at his handiwork with the letter "A" he proudly wrote unprompted.
.
.
.
Moms, we place a lot of pressure on ourselves to have the perfect kids, the perfect house, the perfect life. And, too often, we place those burdens of perfection on our children. I say we all take a moment this weekend to recognize the beauty that is or children - amidst their shenanigans and antics. Search to find their innocence endearing, remind yourself that they are still learning (as we all are) along this journey we call life.
.
.
.
And, marvel at your babies - no matter their age. Bask in their approach to life. Find the beauty in seeing the world through their eyes.
.
.
.
They deserve that from us.
.
.
.
And we deserve that from them!

Someone encouraged followers to celebrate their pet/s today. I loved the idea of taking a picture of my furry babies, and their Lil' Miss (since the older human puppy was still upstairs). The Husky didn't want to be close to the Shepherd, and the Shepherd wasn't entirely sure she was ready for kisses from Lil' Miss. But, this was a pretty classic look... their entirely relationship summed up in one picture - "Mommmm, she's looking at me!!!" by the Shepherd, and, "You expect me to lay down next to *her*?!" from the Husky. And Lil' Miss, assertively taking control of the situation! 😂 Because that's how we roll. Now, what about you? Share your pics of pets... I'd love to see them!! #beautifulcamouflage #bctgp #momlife #christianblogger #catholicblogger #catholicsofinstagram #lularoemae #dogsofinstagram #germanshepherd #germanshepherdsofinstagram #huskiesofinstagram #husky #lovemykids #lovemydogs #dogmom #everydayediths

My family has spent a not-inconsequential amount of time watching the recently released movie "Trolls" by Dreamworks (good catch by a savvy reader that I inappropriately attributed the movie to Disney).
.
.
.
As I walked through the room while it played for yet another play, in what seemed like the hundred-thousandth time, I had a few lightbulb moments.
.
.
.
I'm over @catholicsistas today, sharing my thoughts, and reminding readers - we have a choice to accept God into our lives, or we have a choice to reject Him. Which one will you choose?

Our chaplain shared today a study he recently read, which indicated about 25% of the Millennial generation would consider themselves patriotic. He then took that a step further, tying in how religion throughout the country is on a decline. Not faith in God the Father, necessarily, but religion. And, too often, society simply looks at Jesus as "one cool dude who had lots of great things to say."
.
.
.
But, our chaplain cautioned us that we are selling God short by looking at Jesus as merely a cool dude. He is God. Which sets Christians apart from other faiths - we recognize the God we know as the Trinity - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
.
.
.
And, living as a follower of Christ is not easy. We are called to put Christ first, and if we are truly putting Christ first, it will transform us... it will transform our relationships... it will transform how we approach others. Which will set us at odds with society.
.
.
.
But, the end result... the reward, if you will, will be so worth the difficulty of not fitting in, of going against the grain, of living a life of Christ-first, front and center. Our goal is to become a Saint in heaven with God. To do so, we must live a life which requires us to sometimes go against societal norms and values, and promotes Christ's love... sometimes delivering compassionate, but hard truths, and loving through the challenging times.
.
.
.
How will you live a Christ-centered life this week? How will you allow a Christ-centered life transform you this coming week?
.
.

This is my daughter's face as she was introduced to the sprinkler as a source of cooling down this summer. The joy she found in this simplest activity made me pause to consider when the last time was I found pure joy in the smallest moment. I can honestly say I found absolute joy as a mom, watching her enthusiasm for this activity. I have found with this Gratitude Project I have been spearheading, little moments like this have become more apparent to me - those little moments for which to be grateful. So, this is my happy moment today... my gratitude moment. .
