There’s hunger then there’s cravings .
What’s the difference ?
HUNGER is non specific and any range of food will satisfy it. -Comes on gradually and grows overtime. -Goes away after eating and feeling full.
-predictable and comes from not eating after sometime. •
CRAVING is specific and no other food will do it except that particular food, (gratification from sweets, chocolate, fries, chips) ..
-Comes on suddenly and feel urgent to satisfy .
-cravings don’t go away when your stomach feels full causing discomfort and feeling stuffed .
-cravings are due to emotional states such as stress, boredom, anger, sadness or anxiety .
Sometimes we have a difficult time recognizing these different signals because our bodies have gotten so used to the poor eating and lifestyle habits that has resulted in constant cravings and overeating because of habits formed and developed over the years .
Eating mindfully is something you can implement before you decide to eat to keep yourself in check !
Some advice to help you eat more mindfully, drink water 30 min before eating to ensure that you are not actually dehydrated rather than hungry, try to make daily environment as free of temptation as possible, and get enough sleep!
