#bcwpfinalist Leonor Espinosa @leoescocina established the Leo Espinosa Foundation, or FUNLEO, which is managed by her daughter Laura, with the aim of 'the preservation of Colombia's food traditions while highlighting sustainable practices and local production'. This assists Colombia's black, indigenous and peasant communities, by helping them to develop and market their traditional crops and ingredients. The FUNLEO motto is 'Gastronomy for Development' and, as Espinosa explains: "We try to develop the local food, not just the cuisine: our attention is not focused only in the kitchen, but also in resources, local products from these indigenous communities that have lost, shall we say, a place within Colombian agriculture." @funleodesarrollo #bcwp17

Who is who @bculinarywp 2017? David Hertz is already a familiar face to the #BCWP17, as a finalist for the second year in a row! A distinguished advocate of social gastronomy in Latin America. More than ten years ago, David set up Gastromotiva in São Paulo to provide free culinary training to young people from poor areas, with a view to finding them employment in the catering industry. He has built a community support network that includes workshops for children and cooking courses in prisons. The project also now operates in Rio de Janeiro, Salvador de Bahia and Mexico City, including a soup kitchen - Refettorio Gastromotiva - created at the Olympics in Rio in collaboration with Massimo Bottura´s food waste project: Food for Soul. #mybculinary #basqueculinaryworldprize #finalistBCWP #bculinary #bcwp17

👉Şimdi de yöre kadınlarına istihdam yaratan ve mültecilerin de entegrasyonu ile sosyal gastronomi projesi olan "Harran Gastronomi Okulu" projesi için emek veriyor. Ben onu @kagider_ sayesinde tanıdım ama şimdi tüm dünya onu tanıyor🙏❤️. .

After the #bcwp17 important developments have happened for #bcwpfinalist @ebrubaybarademir, as her kitchen projects with refugees and local women continue to grow she has recently begun a new social project with more domains and ecological changes. Ebru has been working on traditional seed and farming practices for a few years and is now carrying out an organization with residents living in the region to sustain the local seeds by raising awareness about the dangers faced by the soil and nature by adding farmers in. "We aim to reach the chefs as well as the farmers, the seeds, the soil and local productions are as much responsibility of the kitchen professionals as of the farmers. Our work should not be from kitchen to table but from the soil to table. Funleo @funleodesarrollo supports the production and marketing of food and beverages with added value such as Quamba @quambacolombia a refreshing drink made of cane sugar and lemon. The aim of this project is to support displaced women with low resources in #Cundinamarca. Mexican chef Ricardo Muñoz Zurita (@chefricardomunoz), one of this year´s #bcwpfinalist, is a pro-biodiversity activist who believes in promoting the country’s culinary heritage. In a recent interview he explained that the claim of Mexican cuisine has to be part of a cultural revolution that has to change us. Dominique Crenn @dominiquecrenn was member of the jury responsible for electing the winner of the Basque Culinary World Prize this past july 2017. Dominique is the chef proprietor of @atelier.crenn in San Francisco, where she has so far won two Michelin stars. For Crenn creating a narrative and emotional journey for the people who eat her food is one of her central pursuits as a chef.
