Tonight's wine of choice is courtesy of Burrowing Owl, their 2014 Pinot Noir.
First appearance is a deep ruby with just the ever slightest twinge or garnet starting to show.
On the nose the aromas are just starting to move from a fruity simple wine into a more complex mature one. Dried cranberries are the most prevalent with a background of tobacco, mushroom, & a slight hint of leather. The aromas made me instantly think of a dusty old bookstore.
The palate is a continuation of those tertiary characteristics. The earthy tone of tobacco and mushrooms. The dried cranberry is also there but is further complimented with some raspberry flavours.
There's some tannin to this wine, just enough to give it some bite, but overall it has a silky easy drinking texture.
At first the acid level seemed to be a medium +, but it quickly mellowed out, and settled at a medium level.
I paired this wine with a grilled striploin and roasted green beans and it more than held
Another stellar offering from Burrowing Owl!
