The Bayfront Convention Center, located on the Sassafras Pier on Erie's bayfront, is shown on April 6, 2006. At right is the Lansdowne, which was built in 1884 as a railroad car ferry. In the 1980s it was converted into a floating restaurant that operated in Detroit until the late 1980s or early 1990s. In 1999 it was towed to Erie and sank at its moorings on Dec. 25, 2005. It was scrapped in Buffalo, New York in April 2009. . [RICH FORSGREN/ERIE TIMES-NEWS]
