Diana Yip, Youth Program Manager and Lead Film Instructor: Since studying both community psychology and film and digital media at @ucsc, Diana has been passionate about combining #storytelling and #socialjustice. As a freelance filmmaker and editor, Diana has been involved with a number of film projects that allowed her to work with mis- and under-represented people. She is credited in such projects as Visitor’s Day, The Lexington Club Archival Project, and Free for All: Inside the Public Library. For the past 5 years, Diana has also been a film and media #educator for underserved youth. Through teaching and creating film, Diana wants people to know that their stories and their family’s stories matter even though they aren’t fully reflected in mass media. Growing up as the queer, Asian-American daughter of an immigrant mother, the search for people who looked like her in the media was (and still is) often unsuccessful. #NowMoreThanEver, Diana is driven to create media that represents marginalized communities with the complexity, nuance, and respect they deserve.
