Meet second instructor Melvina! She’s been killing the battle scene for the ladies and just in general because that’s how she does it 💪🏻 Style: Popping Fundamentals
Difficulty: Beginner (open to all)
Melvina's interest in popping grew during the end of her junior year in high school. It was the weekly popping sessions at Central Mission Church that allowed her to exchange and learn from fellow poppers/dancers within the scene. Her first battle took place in Indiana, Journey to the Cypher, where her love for the culture grew. It wasn't long after, that the MN Funkstyles crew, ALLDAY, formed and continued to battle within the Midwest. Some of her achievements and opportunities have not only come through the battle scene, but productions such as Rooted, Drop the Mic, MixTape, and Funkin Good Time. Through the 7 years of battling with the embodiment of popping, she's come to enjoy the experience and growth that comes with it.
It took me a year sitting and watching at Central Mission, until I finally gave popping a try.
Have fun! Although it's going to be a popping specific class, don't get caught up in getting the technique of the hit from day 1. It takes continuous drilling and practice to have the body be comfortable with the muscle contractions while dancing. It's okay if then movement feels funny.
