I first worked for Singapore Airlines shooting assignments in Australia for the agency Batey in Singapore. Then I moved there for a one of many periods and shot many campaigns, locations and corporate structures for SIA. Of course Singapore Girl was the most successful campaign ever at this stage for an airline. Friends like director John Ashenhurst helped make SIA the success it is today. many shoots took place in aircraft while parked in engineering while others were mocked up in studios from spare parts. The girls were always fabulous and fun. This image was shot using a Hasselblad Softar filter over a 135mm lens. Others were shot with Vaseline or stocking to create the ‘dreamy’ look. The challenge here was a massive sync flash setup inside and outside the aircraft. Stray radio broadcasts often set off the flash so miles of sync cord worked best.
