TRAINER TIP TUESDAY!!! How to use the stroops properly, specifically in a row. However, you can use these tips in various movement patterns that we perform in our Basecamp workouts too.
1. Choose the proper weight. Make sure you listen to your instructor during the pre-class announcement for light, medium, and heavy handle colors. If you miss it, just ask! That is what the trainers are there for.
2. Make sure that as you release the stroop that you are not allowing it to pull you towards the point of connection. You want to keep your body engaged and in control of the movement. You are always in control of the weight. For a row make sure you are in an athletic stance (soft bend in the knees, hips on top of pelvis, relaxed shoulders, and make sure to breath)
3. Make sure that there is no sag between you and the point of connection. You should have full tension on the band so as it travels further from the point of connection the resistance of the band increases. This will allow you to get the most out of the movement.

This trainer tip Tuesday is all about moving weight overhead with speed and power! Usually when we train overhead, the focus is on the shoulders but with these explosive lifts the legs & core are just as important. Using your entire body to perform these lifts will allow us to develop functional strength from head to toe.
Whether you're working on a Wall Ball movement with a medicine ball (first video) or performing a Barbell Push Press (second video) focus on a few key checkpoints... - Set up with the weight high up on the chest and keep it close to your body for the first part of the lift - Start the movement with a dip in the hips and knees think about "Coiling a spring" - Keep your core tight the entire time! Engaging your core will improve the transfer of force and help prevent unnecessary strain on the lower back - Drive up with tons power. As you press, allow momentum generated from the lower body to help carry the weight all the way up overhead
