Day 38/365 - Improve Forearm Strength

I'm a big advocate of forearm/grip work for baseball players. Having said that, I believe you need to implement your direct forearm/grip work at the right time of the year. If you're someone that's in season or if you're taking a good amount of swings in the off season I don't think it's a good idea to add to that stress with additional forearm/grip work. You have to remember your forearms are getting a TON of work every time you swing as it is. If you're adding to that stress with a bunch of forearm work I think you're going to run the risk of impairing your swing. Joe isn't swinging a bat until next month which gives me the opportunity to add direct forearm work to his training program like the exercise shown in the video above.

Exercise of the Week: Front Squat from Pins, demo'd by @ethanelias93 I love this for a few reasons. 1) It really helps people get better at grooving their squat pattern because you start in the bottom position and are forced to get into an optimal position to lift the weight. 2) The focus is on building brute strength because it eliminates the stretch shortening cycle. 3) It doesn't create nearly as much soreness because there is far less eccentric stress. This pitching tool can help with many productive corrections. Finding and keeping balance point, truly feeling weight back and weight transfer control, riding the slope of the mound with a closed lead foot, eliminating the all too common gating, shoulder alignment matching lower 1/2, and clean pathway tunnel for an aligned (firing) backside.

This is a great drill to feel through the ball (which will help create the extension and direction through contact). It also helps with staying through pitches that you are early and out front on.

Here @colterc8 is starting from a 45° stance with a static, shortened load position and is just focusing on loose hands and swiveling the barrel to and through the ball.
