I am now 3 weeks post Mohs surgery to remove the basal cell carcinoma from my lip & 4 days back into my workout routine.
Taking the break was absolutely necessary & beneficial to proper healing, but it was also nourishing for my soul.
Sometimes I can get so caught up in "needing" to workout that I forget to truly enjoy & appreciate the opportunity to physically be able to do so (even when a toddler is sitting on me & pulling my hair down the entire workout!)
Jumping back in to week 7 of an 8 week program after a long break has been tough. Although every single part of me feels sore, I thank Godfor the opportunity to be able to workout & strengthen the body He gave me.

Today I decided to demonstrate the progress of the patient in reverse order, starting from the condition of the cheek 3 months after the stitches removal. V to Y flap was used to close the defect of big diameter after excision of BCC. Before applying to the facility patient self treated his tumor for a couple of years resulting in a huge lesion involving lower eyelid and cheek. #basalcellcarcinoma most common severe type of skin cancer characterized by light or pearly nodules and has a 90% survival rate with early Diagnosis.

Here is a before/after of a #mohssurgery case I performed earlier today. 💉💉💉 This patient had a recurrent #basalcellcarcinoma of her upper arm, which was growing within an old scar. We used Mohs surgery to fully remove the cancer, and reconstructed the defect with an #mercedesbenz flap. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻Skin cancer is curable when caught early. Large skin cancers on the eyebrows are hard to remove without needing a flap to close the surgical defect. A flap means borrowing skin from adjacent tissue laxity (in this case the left side of the forehead and temple) and pulling it across to close the defect. This particular flap is called an O to L advancement flap. The scar lines are placed to hide nicely along natural skin lines to achieve good cosmetic results. #drleonayip #dermatologist #skinsurgeon #skincancers #skinflap #canberradoctor #canberra #basalcellcarcinoma

SKIN CANCERS___ so what’s the scoop? I’m here to tell you about the 3 most common types of skin cancer.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👩🏼‍⚕️BASAL CELL CARCINOMA (BCC) - the most common type of skin cancer. 1 in 5 will develop a BCC during their lifetime. BCCs often look like sores that won’t heal, pink or shiny bumps, red patches, or a combination. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They are usually caused by a combination of cumulative and intense, occasional sun exposure. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👩🏼‍⚕️SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA (SCC) - the 2nd most common skin cancer. These may be scaly red patches, sores, growths with central depressions, wart-like or crusty They can become disfiguring and sometimes deadly if allowed to grow. SCC is mainly caused by cumulative UV exposure over the course of a lifetime and intense daily UV exposure such as during summer months.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👩🏼‍⚕️MELANOMA - The most dangerous form of skin cancer. Melanomas often look like moles and may be a new lesion or develop from an existing healthy-appearing mole. The majority of melanomas are black or brown, but they can also be skin-colored, pink, red, blue, white, etc. Melanoma is caused mainly by intense, occasional UV exposure (frequently leading to sunburns), especially in those who are genetically predisposed to the disease. Melanoma if untreated can become a serious medical condition. Early detection is the key!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you had your skin checked by a qualified skin doctor?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If your unsure of some moles, or pigmentated, scaly areas book a consultation to see me at Luminosity Ski. We recommend an annual Skin Check to ensure healthy happy skin #skin #skindoctor #medical #healthyskin #sunscreen #womeninmedicine #doctor #skincancerprevention #geelongskindoctor #skindrreed #geelong #melanoma #squamouscellcarcinoma #basalcellcarcinoma #melanomaawareness #melanomaawarenessmonth #medicarerebate #skinchecks #luminosityskingeelong

Look at this disgusting thing!! It appeared 3 weeks ago & grew this big already! My dermatologist chopped it off today & sent it to pathology...should get results next week...my body never stops with this BS! This is a reminder to everyone using tanning beds, this is what you end up with, skin cancer. I haven’t used a tanning bed in 6 years, I use sunblock when outside...I will be dealing with this for the rest of my life...luckily we catch mine early enough & they’re only Squamous Cell Carcinoma (non-deadly), but they can enter the bloodstream if ignored...so get your whole body checked by a dermatologist regularly #skincancer #cancerawareness #cancer #dermatology #tanning #tanningbeds #sunblock #sun #outdoors #skincancerawareness #squamouscellcarcinoma #basalcellcarcinoma #melanoma #tattoo #ink

Several months ago while performing an annual skin exam on Dr. Scheel, PA-C, Achay noticed an irregular mole on Dr. Scheel’s foot and decided it should be biopsied.
To everyone's surprise, the result of the biopsy came back as a dysplastic nevus, or atypical mole.
According to the National Cancer Institute, researchers have shown that atypical moles are more likely than ordinary moles to develop into a type of skin cancer called melanoma.

Fortunately for Dr. Scheel, this wasn't the case, and PA-C Achay was able to remove the mole with clear margins. No one expects their Dermatologist to get skin cancer, so this is a serious reminder to all that no one is safe from skin cancer. Be sure to see a dermatologist yearly to have your full-body skin check.
