As I mentioned in a previous post, Everything in St Petersburg is huge: Squares, museums, churches, cathedrals and what not! The Hermitage museum itself is made from six huge buildings. The most known ones are the Winter Palace - AKA the Big Hermitage (seen in this pic), Small Hermitage and the New Hermitage.
A tip for Hermitage goers - how to skip the huge queue: Buying your ticket online (for double the price..) or from one of the machines inside the museum grounds (same fare as ticket office) will save you queuing time. It can take more than an hour to get to the ticket office! I bought my ticket on one of the machines inside the museum ground (there was no queue for the machines). Then I went to the entrance and followed the sign for people who already have a ticket. Simple and didn't spend a moment queuing! I was wondering why (at least 100) people in the queue were actually queuing, but I guess I'll never know! Oh, perhaps to get into one of the guided tours, but can't be sure.
