Incredible assist by PEP athlete John Tavares in overtime last night! Johnny uses a handful of Power Edge Pro skills to fend off Couturier and find Bailey for the winner.
First he drives off of left outside edge and works up the boards. Strong coverage from Couturier including pressuring Tavares’s stick, so Tavares counters by moving puck back down the boards into open space while simultaneously driving off of his right foot outside edge. Notice how Tavares has elite edgework and an explosive step off of both legs, he clearly does not favour one or the other. Coverage remains strong, so in order to create separation Johnny gets creative, using one hand to slide the puck through the open lane created by the defenders feet, which are forced to be exceptionally wide to contain him. This separation also draws the attention of the two other Flyers players, distracting them from their coverage and creating just enough time and space for him to feather a cross ice pass to Bailey who capitalizes on the time and space JT has given him to bury his own rebound for the win. #rethinkyourtraining
