We went to Maketto, a Taiwanese-Cambodian restaurant on H Street, for dinner. I wasn't super prepared for dinner so couldn't order everything to try at once as usual. What we did have was good enough to warrant a revisit though! I had pork buns, shrimp dumplings, and Gai lan (a kind of Chinese brococoli), and they were pretty good! The pork bun was quite filled and meaty, so it was much more filling than I thought it would be. My friend got the vegetable bun and it was quite good also. Good balance of meat and flavor, and the outer bao isn't too thick or dry. I think the shrimp dumpling is an interesting take since it adds a vinegar sauce with some chili around it. Though, they used minced shrimp instead of whole shrimp so your mileage may vary on that (too soft for me, not enough textured crunch if it's minced). The skin wasn't too thick and they're a reasonable size so it was passable, at least. I was very pleased to find the Gai lan on the menu since that's not that common here, and the portion was quite sizable so it's worth the higher price to me. We had to take half of it home, kinda wish their take home container was smaller though? But overall decent experience and will return to try the rest of the menu.
