That's a wrap for Day 3 of #FutureFarming Dialog 2017! (#sponsoredtravel) I spent the day at the Fruit and Vegetable R&D facility in The Netherlands. It was mind blowing to see not only the technology, but the time and energy and enthusiasm that goes into developing new seeds - and the changes are made because of customer demand! On average it's anywhere from 10-25 years and €1-2 million to bring a new seed to market...if you know that conversion to US dollars, help your girl out. And there are no GM/GE seeds in the Bayer Crop Science fruit and vegetable lineup - something I think was surprising! All of the genetic variation they achieve is done through methods like selective breeding, grafting, cloning, and trial after trial to isolate the traits that farmers and customers want. It's some really amazing science!
If you could pick a fruit or vegetable you'd want to change, what would it be and why? I think I'd ask for a mini avocado that would never bruise or brown...but a close second would be asparagus that doesn't make your pee smell funny 😂😂
