Tuesday yogis: here is a little reminder of (almost the same) the sequence we did today in the end of the class. First we did many different variations of classical twists by using the chair and the wall. It is funny when I look at this video it seems so easy and light, but I really put all my effort to actions and was really sweaty betty afterwards😮So videos dont really tell the truth about the practice. Yesterday we practiced #sirsasana 1 (headstand) with all Iyengar yoga groups. Tuesday ”late night” yogis practiced also this sequence (not baddhakonasanas in the end). Learning to control headstand with leg movements and spinal twists without overloading the neck region: eka pada, parshva and parivrtta actions in yogic language. Practicing this sequence took from me about 12 minutes, so the video is highly speeded up. First learn how to stand steadily without movements. Add these later on when the practice of basics is steady. Neck should not hurt at any point! #yoga #iyengar #iyengaryoga #jooga #balanssitraining

Today it will be all about frontal body extension and backbends. We will work for example with this dynamic hanumanasana-variation. Today our focus was on our shoulderblades and pelvis. Really finding all nuances in scapula movements: protraction, retraction, elevation, depression, rotation and pelvis anterior and posterior tilts, and how to use them in deepening the actions in asanas. Traveling yogi finds her way to do her own practice🤟Not so much space, but you dont need much. I love yoga to the moon and back in many ways, but to mention one thing that I specially thought today: you dont need much space, you dont necessarily need a mat or anything. Just yourself and few squaremeters. Yogapractice is so on hand in all circumstances. I always use whatever is available for the practice in places where I stay. I try to be creative and see more possibilities than obstacles. Ten minutes of practice is 👍, 20 minutes 👍👍, 30 minutes 👍👍👍. You can find almost every day at least 10 minutes, which is 👍. In the summer I prefer practicing outside whenever it is possible, but it is so hot and crowded here in Rome that you’d better practice inside. Rest and recover. When I talk about yoga practice I dont mean just strenuous physical practice that can sometimes be called exercise. Exercising is good, but yoga is not about exercising. Practice is not same as exercise. So, in yoga it is question about all over balance, not just about to get some workout done. Practice is skillful action that sometimes challenges and moves your body&mind, but sometimes the practice means restore and recover. Practice has to be balanced, specially if you practice every day. It cant be rigorous and demanding all the time. It is also practice when you do restorative poses that allow your body&mind to rest and recover. This completness makes yoga practice (when it is understood) also very different from exercice. And dont get me wrong: I also love exercicing. For some people restorative part can even be the hardest part of practice, because our minds are so keen on thinking practice as exercise. Yoga is not only for your body. It is for your body&mind&spirit. The first picture is from my practice some days ago. The other three are of the nature around.
