Let's talk about nutrition 🍒 ***disclaimer: I am NOT a nutritionist or dietition and therefore cannot write out meal plans for clients*** This is something many PTs fail to adhere to. Many feel just because they have studied basic nutrition and know quite a bit through their own research that it's fine to devise meal plans for clients.
There are many issues with this...
1. It's a meal plan! Who actually wants to be told what they can eat and when they can eat it? This is not achievable long term. You want to go out and socialise over lunch or dinner but oh no wait it's not on your meal plan so you can't. 🤦🏼‍♀️
2. THEY ARE NOT QUALIFIED!!! (Unless they have a degree in nutrition or dietetics) This is like me prescribing medical drugs instead of exercise to reduce your blood pressure...
3. It's extremely dangerous! If you end up following an excessively low calorie, low carb or low fat diet it's going to damage you. You will end up with vitamin and or mineral deficiencies which can result in even greater conditions such as hair loss, skin problems, cardic issues, osteoporosis to name just a few. So all that strength training you're doing to help protect your bones is pointless. 🤦🏼‍♀️
4. Most of their "mealplan" recommendations come from their own diet. One size does not fit all 🙋🏼‍♀️Solution: ✅educate your clients about nutrition following the nutritional guidelines
✅look at what they are currently eating and help them see where they can cut down on foods with low nutritional value
✅encourage 7 a day ✅encourage drinking more water ✅support them with what they feel they can achieve and discourage them from cutting out food groups ✅promote a balanced diet with no extreme measures

Results in: 😀happy clients who are not in danger of becoming vitamin or mineral deficient and causing even greater harm to their bodies 😀 A PT becoming respected for working within their qualified boundaries backed by their scientific knowledge 🤓

Why do we sometimes focus on the negatives over the positives??? 🤔 It’s like it is easier to do that sometimes...

We had a really great day today at the Naples Botanical Gardens. (Go before 4 June to see the 🦕 🦖 Highly recommended!) While we were there a lady said to me, “You have such sweet adorable children”. I smiled at her, thanked her and replied “To look at, yes.” 🙊

Why do we feel we need to highlight the negatives? 🤷🏻‍♀️ My kids ARE adorable and well behaved a lot of the time. I know I am incredibly lucky to have such healthy, happy children that can really roll with our hectic life. They can be exhausting too....really challenging....they are kids! But I can either look at how they exhaust me or how they fill my heart with joy. I reflected after today that I should have just said to the lady, “Yes they are! Thank you!”

This approach of positive over negative applies to other aspects of life too...to how I view my body, how happy I am with life, how grateful I am, how I can make the most of each day....it’s something I tell my clients. It’s why I started daily affirmations. But I think the move has shifted my mind and I’m sarcastic at heart...🙈😬

So, today I am thankful for the reminder and will focus again on the positives and all the joy I do have. Double tap ❤️ if you too are going to focus on positives over negatives. 🙌🏻 #thefitmomsplan

No criticism or judgment against myself.
Laughter, fun, cuddles.
This is life. Love and cuddles with those I love. Thankful I get to spend some time with them this summer. Soak it up and breath them in.
