It's always a humbling experience when God uses other people to teach you lessons about yourself. I found myself praying about a few people in frustration and God says, "Ahem. There's a log in your eye..." So, I'll admit, I have the tendency to get a little carried away in discussing topics that I'm passionate about. I can easily railroad others in conversation when I'm very excited or very frustrated especially. To be even more honest, I'm just "a talker" in general, which is how God made me and there's nothing wrong with my extroversion, but God is reminding me how important it is to listen.
[LISTENING DRIVES CONNECTION.]
We all want to be heard and understood and feel valued, but how often is that message not communicated because I'm only hearing or listening for a break to continue with my own thoughts. I believe this is why prayer often feels empty for folks. We come to God to vent, to beg, to negotiate, to receive... and then we check out completely missing the fact that God has thoughts of His own and maybe he'd like to share a couple of those with us.
In church, in prayer, at work, with friends, our kids, and our spouses... let's practice a little self-restraint and try to REALLY listen. You never know what important stuff you've been missing... #listen #listenup #relationships #dialogue #prayer #talkingtoomuch #balanceisgood #speckandlog #confessions #discipline #connection
