As I stand at my kitchen sink, rinsing out my favorite Provino glass, I am reminded that last night was their kick off of the Vendimia (Wine Harvest Season) in Ensenada, for the 28th year (July 26-August 19) starting with last night’s “Salón del Vino” . This is where the winemakers are together, as an industry event kick off party, sharing their labor of success. It is, by far, the one party I wish to attend someday. This is my favorite region in the world and these are my top wines and my picks this year are better than any other year. And I am quite sure there are more unsung heros.
August 3, is the Muestro del Vino. Where the public can celebtrate the wines of over 50 wineries and food in an iconic setting, also in Ensenada, at the Riviera del Pacifico.
August 9: “Fiesta en el Valle”, at Parque en Povenir, free. Crafts, artisan items, tastings. 5pm.
August 19: The final event, “Concurso de Paellas, Ramón Garcia Ocejo, Paella Contest” at Viña de Liceaga. 50 winemakers, 130+ wines, 90 teams will make paella.
Of course, many wineries have their own Vendimia celebrations also.
Provino, for 28 years, is an organization of over 57 wineries and they organize events to promote the regions wines from 5 valles, including Valle de Guadalupe in Baja California.
I share the effort of celebrating the wines, too!
