Zheng Ho (Cheng Ho) also known Ma San Bo, born in 1371 AD was a Hui Chinese Mariner, Explorer, Diplomat and Fleet Admiral who commanded voyages to South-East Asia, South Asia, The Middle East and East Africa (from 1405 to 1433 AD) in series of Seven Naval Expeditions.
The Yong Le emperor placed Zhang He as the admiral in control of the huge fleet and armed forces thet undertook these expeditions, and Wang Jing Hong was appointed his second in command.
First voyage, consisted of a fleet of 317 ships holding almost 28.000 crewmen started in 1405 AD. His fleet visited Arabia, Brunei, East Africa, India, Malay Archipelago, and Siam. Dispensing and receiving good along the way. Zheng He presented gifts of gold, silver, porcelain and silk in return China received such novelties as ostrich, zebras, camels, ivories, and giraffes.
British Naval-Historian, Gavin Menzies believed that small number of his fleet under eunuch Hong Bao had found America in 1421 AD.
Zheng Ho sought to attain his goals through diplomacy and did not shrink from violence when he considered necessary. He suppressed pirates who had long plagued china and South-East Asian waters, thus made the trade among states in these region flourished after the suppression.
He died during the fleet's last voyage in 1435 AD. Although he has a tomb in China, it is empty. He buried at the sea, but some historian belived that he probably was buried in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia.
