This is a purebred Rottweiler pup who was brought to us in Blikkiesdorp for deworming and vaccinations. The guy also wanted to find out about docking the tail! 😳
Of course, Dr @rozy_the_vet educated him on all the reasons NOT to do that and also informed him that tail docking is illegal!
People selling puppies don't always know where the babies end up because breeders don't do home checks - they just sell.
There are so many animals either losing their lives or living a poor quality of life due to overbreeding. Shelters are bursting at the seams; at some shelters/welfare orgs, euthanisation stats are between 250 to 500 healthy dogs a month simply because there aren't enough homes, and there isn't any space to keep them all until a home does become available... With the economic downturn, there are several new breeders pumping out puppies simply as a money-making initiative. They don't seem to worry about what will happen to all these dogs down the line?? Most breeders do not do DNA testing and let unsterilised puppies go to the same areas, which in turn means that related dogs are also being bred. This results in an exceptionally poor gene pool and inbreeding.
The animal welfare system in this country is so overburdened. Please help by educating friends and family on why breeders should not be supported, and rather choose to #adoptdontshop!
This outdated idea of a "mixed breed" being bad needs to be put where it belongs - as a relic of the past. They're all dogs with dog characteristics, personalities of their own, and so much love and loyalty to give. 🐶💕 Some of the best dogs we've ever met were #rescued! 📸 : @tarryn_martin_photo
