It was one of the most challenging experiences I've ever had both physically and mentally.... but we did it! #Kokodatrack
Steep inclines and declines down and up mountains that seem to last forever. 10 hour days at times trekking through the slippery jungle.
The emotional history and stories of our Australian Soldiers, the friendships made that will last a lifetime, the PNG people and culture, the stinky smells of wearing the same clothes over the last 10 days, the joy of knowing together we raised over $75,000 for the @littleheroesfoundation and the gratitude and appreciation I have for all the small things in life we sometimes take for granted (like a washing machine and a flushing toilet 😂). Thank you to everyone for your donations that went directly to @littleheroesfoundation who help seriously ill children and their families.
Special shout out to @xbladesaustralia for the quick drying gear that came in handy and the @adelaide_fc for their ongoing support.
To my heroes, dad and brother Scott who joined me on this epic adventure and got me through it I'm so proud of you. And a massive thank you to our supportive families over the past few months in our training and time away.
An experience I'll cherish forever. #KokodaTrack #Lestweforget #BackTrackAdventures #PNG

Day 7: Naduri Village to Monaro via Mission Ridge and Brigade Hill. 1550m to 830m. Due to a mistake with daylight savings we were woken at 4am. We packed, had an early breakfast then waited for first light. We left around 6 am and did a rapid descent to Efogi River, crosses then a slight ascent to the village of Efogi 1. There were a number of other groups heading North here looking at the markets. Heading downhill to Efogi 2 and a short stop at a makeshift museum. It was now very hot and humid. We climbed steeply for about an hour and half and stopped at key points to hear about the battles fought. We arrived at Brigade Hill around 11.15 and held a memorial service. It was moving to have the service there with war graves behind and Dire Straits Brothers in Arms playing in the back ground. After lunch of our usual noodles and tea we started a two hour steep descent towards Vabuiagi Creek. About 5 mins we experienced rain the very heavy tropical weather. The track turned into a river and it was very slippery and slow progress. Everything was again! The rain stopped just as we arrived at camp. We built a fire and tried to dry boots, socks bedding and clothing. As we had a 4:30 wake up everyone was in bed by 8:30. #kokoda #kokodatrack #kokodatrail #backtrackadventures #newguinea #papua #papuanewguinea #ww2 #trekking #treking #muddy

Day 2 Kokoda Trail: bus from Hotel to Port Moresby Airport, Air Niugini flight over the mountains to Popondetta Airfield, view a WW2 Liberator Aircraft then in to the back of a truck for a 4 hour dusty and potholed track to Kokoda for our first night camp and introduction to our tent for the next 8 days. A view of the museum and battlefield, pasta for dinner and off to bed for a 5am wake up call. #kokoda #kokodatrack #kokodatrek #backtrackadventures #newguinea #igersoftheday #ig_photooftheday #ig_cameras_united #iger #igers #ig_newguinea

This incredible man not only carried my pack, he also caught me mid slips, stopped me from falling into rivers, shared about life in PNG, all whilst running the trek in thongs or bare feet! #Somer #BestPorterEver #Kokoda #BackTrackAdventures #TBT #ThrowBackThursday
