India (w the fresh cut!) Landed a few days back but slept for most of the first one. Yesterday I took to the streets and allowed myself to just wander. Picked a spot on the map, showed up, walked. If left looked more interesting than right, I went with it. No aim, no destination, no sense of time.
By midday I had my first experience of what felt like ‘real’ India, where in a few short blocks I was transformed from Average White Tourist to 8th Wonder of the World. You’d think a bunch of grown-ass-men had never seen a dude sitting in the shade enjoying a papaya before! The gawking was open, and for the most part filled with smiles and delight. And then there were the kids- they stared and giggled and tested out their English ‘hi!’ and ran up in herds to shake my hand. By the end of the afternoon I was exhausted and inspired and grateful to have experienced everything I had.
