(Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. ) Imagine this little newborn. Imagine his soft whimpers and cries. Imagine that newborn baby smell; that wonder and beauty of new life. Picture the innocence, the helplessness; the dependence he has upon his mother and father. Yet, this isn't just any baby. This is God come down, in human form. How could it be? What a wonder to behold...the King of kings and Lord of lords...laying in a feed trough in a dark and disgusting cave. Look into that tiny face, and see the love. See the grace and mercy. See the wonder of God's Son, in the form of something so helpless and tiny.
Look upon those chubby, little, dimpled feet; that would one day be pierced through with a nail.
That soft head of hair, and that wrinkled baby brow; that would one day bear a crown of thorns.
Those curled up, soft little fingers and hands; that would bear the nail prints.
That newborn baby smell; that would turn to the blood, sweat and tears of the cross.
That tiny, innocent baby; that would bear the guilt and shame of an entire world.
The perfect features of a newborn; that would bear the stripes across His back, and the impaling of a spear on His chest.
This perfect little gift, this precious baby boy, this innocent little one...who came to save us all.
What a story of true love. What an example of sacrifice. Truly; O come, let us adore Him! Let us praise Him! Let us love Him! This one who came and felt our hurt, who bore our sin; who took our shame! This one who was willing to come as a helpless baby, to prove that His love for us was REAL. This Jesus, who was willing to feel our world's trials; in order to give us new life. Who was willing to bear our sin,
before He washed it away.
What a wonder.
What a mystery.
What a Savior!
