188. That is the number that was on the Dr’s scale yesterday at my last pre-labor appointment. It looks like that is where it will top off at as I finish this pregnancy. And it is about 15 pounds lower than where I topped off at with my other four pregnancies. *
I mention this not to brag, or have women compare their experiences to mine or anything like that. I mention it to bring up two points. *
1) I came into this pregnancy with more muscle than any other pregnancy, and I also tried to maintain that muscle as much as I could through smart lifting and cardio, nutritious intuitive eating, and making time for rest. I completely attribute not gaining as much weight, and a relatively mobile and pain-free pregnancy to those things. Moms! Focus on building muscles between pregnancy and maintaining muscle during pregnancy because having muscles to help carry a pregnant load is a game changer!

2) It is ok to gain weight during pregnancy. For the most part, the scale is not an indication of the value of your pregnant. Obviously your Dr will monitor it closely to check for any issues that may arise, but for the most part, your body knows what this doing. Your body knows how much it needs to gain or not gain to be able to safely and efficiently carry your baby. Don’t get discouraged by comparing yourself to all those moms who “only gained 15 pounds” etc etc. Your body will take care of you and your baby how it needs to, and that may be by gaining more weight than you think is normal or necessary. And that is ok. Because after, you will have a clean slate, a starting place, and with the same smart lifting and cardio and nutritious intuitive eating, you can help your body achieve and become anything you want once it is done support a baby.

Just over here squatting a baby out! Squats are so good in preparation for labor, and to use during labor if you so desire! A squatting position can open your pelvis up to 28% wider than a laying position! Here is a great way to keep squatting, even when you feel like you are squatting with a bowling ball tied to your stomach. *

First Challenge results are in! Rather than shredding, RJ’s goal for the Challenge was to bulk up. He’s added 1.09kg of solid muscle and 6.5cm of height! Pregnancy is a real trip, but I’m using it to improve my mental strength as well as physical strengths. Anyone who says your body will be ruined by growing new life like it’s a demonic parasite is wrong! Pregnancy is hard, no doubt, but we HAVE to stop looking at it like it’s a disease that wants to take us down🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️🙅‍♀️

If you take care of yourself, eat enough of the right things, and keep active, you’re simply taking advantage of the extra life force from within, and giving it all the happy ‘feel good’ releases from being a healthy mama 💃💪🏻💫

Back at the gym after over a week, and it felt good! And a 35 week belly filling out nicely as he gets less room to move around and I feel hard back and bottom spots more at the surface. I am still amazed by the things my body is allowing me to do with ease and no discomfort this far into my pregnancy. I remember with all my others getting to this point and thinking how so uncomfortable I was and how I was just done being pregnant, and I haven’t gotten to that point with this one yet. Which makes me conclude that for myself, the more muscle composition I come into my pregnancies, the easier my pregnancy will feel, because that is the difference between this one and the other four. Too bad I didn’t learn this earlier than the last pregnancy! Oh well, I will enjoy my last month of hopefully continued ease.

Well, my 2nd leg day actually! I’ve found that hitting legs doesn’t hurt for a couple days, so why not get in consecutive workouts before the pain comes?! 😂😭

My absolute favorite exercise of today was the #hipthrust on the #exerciseball - it turned into a big stretch between sets which is so nice to feel in my back now that I’m almost at #21weekspregnant 😭😭😭

Another day, another hike. This time in Palo Duro Canyon. Our own little slice of non-flat beauty in the panhandle.

We had family and friends in town this weekend, a total of 6 adults and 11 kids in our house, which meant a lot of fun and chaos. As the host Mom, it also meant a lot of cooking, cleaning, playing, entertaining, and instigating and directing activities, which are all things I love doing and feel like I’m pretty good at. (Basically glorified bossiness. 😂). *

While we were on this hike, I lifted my niece up a steeper part of the trail and my sister-in-law said, “Your pregnancies must be easy! Here you are hosting and cooking and hiking and lifting my daughter up the trail!” That comment hit me because while I am more tired carrying around all the extra weight, and for sure I’m doing WAY less load at the gym, I really have felt REALLY strong and energized this pregnancy, and I completely attribute that to continuing to eat nutritionally dense foods, lifting to keep my muscles as strong as I can, and doing steady state cardio to keep my lungs in high capacity. I have had way less aches, never felt out of breath doing anything, can still easily lift my children and all my heavy chore items (laundry basket, groceries, etc), and I have energy to do all my mother responsibilities without feeling like I’m dragging.

It’s pretty amazing what our bodies can do, especially when we take care of them.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Today marks my 2 weeks of going to the gym and I’m just starting to notice tiny tiny changes in my body. I went through a personal really hard time over this past fall/winter season and I lost a lot of weight. So much that even my friends at work started noticing, and I started feeling really bad about myself. I’m already ridiculously tiny with an insane metabolism so any weight loss for me is instantly noticed and not very good. I’ve been trying to find the one way that works for me to put some extra weight onto my body. I could just eat junk on junk and gain weight that way but that’s definitely not healthy. I pretty much don’t have any fat on my body so my gym journey will be literally building muscle on muscle from the ground up. I’d like to have a nice little toned butt/legs/arms and this seems to be the only way working for me as of now to put weight on. I’ve been trying to do some baby bulking as well and definitely eating a lot more than I was before. Have to feed this body and make it grow! ====================
