Now that temperature are rising and spring is a natural season for transition, change and elimination (vata season), I cleanse my body each day with juicy, sweet fruits! From Ayurvedic perspective fruits are cleansing and hydrate the body. Are you a Vata type? Then go for sweet nourishing fruits like mango, banana and ripe papaya. Are you a Pitta type? Then go for sweet and somewhat astringent fruits like apples, pomegranate and oranges. Melons also very good to pacify Pitta as they are very hydrating. Avoid too sour fruits. Are you a Kapha type? Go for foods that are mildly astringent and only somewhat sweet like green apples, berries, cranberries and citrus fruits like grapefruit and lemon.
Fruits should be eaten separate from other fruits (so sorry but that yoghurt, muesli plus fruit idea needs to go out of the window). So fruits should be taken at least 1,5-2 hrs after your last meal. That is why it is so nice to have fruits for breakfast. Make a bowl of your favorite fruits and enjoy these gifts of nature. Welcome Cindy Terrell back to ISY. She will be providing an enlightening workshop and discussion on the Ayurvedic detox regime. Cindy came to ISY in December 2017 and gave an overview of Ayurveda principles and philosophy. She returns on April 20, 2018 to provide more details on this historical health and wellness practice. Cindy is a certified Ayurvedic practitioner, life coach, and ETP nutrition coach. She has been interested in health, fitness, and nutrition since her early 20’s, especially as it relates to preventative and natural treatments for health.
Cindy became aware of Ayurveda when she was practicing yoga many years ago. The fact that it viewed food as medicine and medicine as food spoke to her. It made perfect sense because she was not a fan of pharmaceuticals if there is a natural way to heal the body. It wasn’t until 2014 that she sought to study this holistic approach to health. Cindy is a recent graduate of New World Ayurveda and she is looking forward to sharing her knowledge to help others naturally achieve balance and health.
Ayurveda is an ancient health system focused on bringing balance to mind, body, and spirit. Ayurveda translated means the science of life. Yoga has defined my way of living, and given me the guidelines to constantly redesign and reevaluate my strategies towards fulfilling my dreams. It has allowed me to hold the space for reflection and always offers me the strength to believe in myself and focus on the present. Yoga is an intimate reflection on my relationship with myself. It is my prayer.
Therefore I commit everyday to this prayer and I surrender myself to this path that I have chosen. It is my aspiration that one day, when time and space merge, I will live this Truth fully and savor the nectar of unconditional and compassionate love.

Ever heard of the liquid day in Ayurveda? You can reduce Ama by designating just one day a month as a detox day. Try to go without breakfast on this day, drink 1 glass of warm lemon water in the morning and 1 glass of hot (or ginger) water every hour through the day. For lunch and in the evening eat only vegetable soup and abstain from eating meat, eggs, cheese and fish. Try it out - you will feel lighter, fitter and clearer after only one day 👌

Doctor in the kitchen: Unser Ayurvedisches Hausmittel für die Allergiesaison ist Kurkuma.

Kurkuma gilt als hilfreiches, natürliches Antihistaminikum zur Vorbeugung und Reduzierung allergischer Reaktionen. Es enthält die Substanz Curcumin, ein Antioxidans, welches die Freisetzung von Histamin im Körper blockiert. Kurkuma hat ausserdem entzündungshemmende Eigenschaften und stärkt unser Immunsystem.

Tipp 1: Vermische 1 TL Kurkuma (bio) mit 1 TL Honig (aus der Region) um eine akute allergische Reaktion rasch abzuschwächen.

Honig stärkt laut wissenschaftlichen Studien unser Immunsystem und unsere Widerstandskraft gegen Infekte. Achte darauf, Honig aus der Region zu kaufen, da dieser Pollen der spezifischen Region enthält und somit unsere Abwehrkräfte gegen diese Pollen stärkt. Du kannst Kurkuma auch vielen Gerichten hinzufügen, um so täglich von seiner gesundheitsfördernden Wirkung profitieren.
