It's July and we're continuing our year long #radicalselflove2017 journey. This month our focus is raising our awareness about how self-sabotage can undermine our ability to engage in self-love. .

You donโ€™t owe anyone your love โ€“ Be unafraid to set boundaries
.
.
Often, itโ€™s hard to set parameters with the people who are โ€˜closestโ€™ to us. We answer questions that we are uncomfortable answering about the details in our lives in order to avoid offending those whom we love. Sometimes, we even volunteer information that we would prefer not to disclose in order to preserve close-knitted interactions. Self -disclosure therefore, becomes a bargaining tool for love. One of the ways to manage this to reframe your understanding of the nature and purpose of personal disclosure. Disclosure should be a liberating process where another person is freely invited to share in a personal experience. It is not a chore or a duty. When it begins to feel as such, you are indeed hurting yourself more than you need to. You are entitled to privacy even in a family.

Reading Reduces Stress, Enhances Empathy and More.

Research conducted by cognitive neuropsychologist David Lewis and colleagues from the University of Sussex in England revealed that reading is a powerful form of stress relief. Volunteers had their stress levels and heart rates increased and then tried a variety of stress-reduction methods to relax.

Reading worked best, outshining other stress-reduction techniques like listening to music, taking a walk or having a cup of tea. Stress levels declined by 68 percent after participants read for just six minutes, leading Lewis to say, "Losing yourself in a book is the ultimate relaxation."

When you read, your mind is distracted from everyday worries and anxiety, while your muscles tend to relax. In addition, research shows reading leads to improvements in brain function, including significant increases in connectivity that persist for several days after the reading takes place.
