In this #architecture #sketch Cormac Phalen (@archy_type) depicts a house that truly embraces the concept of sustainable building by reusing whatever scraps of wood could be found and lashing them together with native vines and foliage…

Actually, this is just a sketch of an interestingly designed house, which I would guess is a sort of lookout perch for a group of cliff-dwelling people. The house appears attached to a massive stone outcropping, but it is unclear what, if anything, the stone outcropping is attached to. Perhaps Cormac only chose to draw in the parts of the rock face that he wanted us to see to increase the “wow” factor of the drawing.

As with Cormac’s other “stilthouse” drawings, I really like the texture and detail of the woodplanks, and the hard angles created by the “stilts” creates an asymmetric geometric patterns that is just interesting to look at from an aesthetic point of view. I also find it interesting to note and point out that Cormac looks to have lightly “sketched” out the angled-yet-smooth faces of the stone. I can sort of picture him seeing him examining the irregular outline of stone and making rough determinations as to how the rock should cleft and cleave… or rather, how it WOULD HAVE cleaved over time, almost he had sketched out a larger block of stone in pencil, then sculpted out how he wanted it to…

Or maybe I’m just giving Cormac a little too much credit, and he was just sketching some damn rocks and a house. Sure, the house and the rocks look damn good, but he might have just let creativity and personal interpretation drive his hand rather than analytics and engineering.

Anyway, great work, Cormac. I always enjoy seeing your sketches… regardless of how you go about creating them. ::---🏔---::
