Check out this awesome #penandink #illustration by Dimitris Pantazis (@dimitriskpantazis) of #Spiderman web slinging across two pages of Dimitris’ Airship #sketchbook!
There are many things that can make a piece of comic book artwork “great.” Of course, the illustrator can just draw very well (which Dimitris does) and that’s probably the first thing you see in a piece that makes you involuntarily say “Oh, well THAT is AWESOME.” But then you really LOOK at this particular piece and other things pop out. You get a real sense of ACTION with this frame… Spider-man’s location on the page and how his arms and legs are “posed” you can clearly tell that he’s in mid-swing… probably around the corner of a building. Then you see the jaunty angle of the buildings and it feels like you’re going web-slinging alongside Spidey.
Also, I’d like to draw attention to how much dense ink Dimitris used in his Airship sketchbook. The pages look like they took it rather well, don’t they?
I have a bunch more to say about this, but im reachong the character limit on IG so maybe I'll write something more up and blog about it... Anyway, please be sure to head over the Dimitris’ Instagram page and check it out. He’s got a really cool and unique style of drawing that I think you’ll like. Tell ‘em that Mike at Airship told you to “swing” on over to say hi.
