The WHY I needed to do scary shit.
Going from the comfort of paycheck to paycheck from teaching, to having to EARN my weekly paycheck based on how many lives I am changing has been tough. I’ve had times of excitement and some of struggle. It’s not rainbows 🌈 every single day, but when I was asked by my push coach WHO I would be if I never made the choice to start.......I really lost my shit.
If I had never tried, I would be over 300 pounds, rheumatoid running rampant, and MISERABLE as a teacher who cried as I place Joon in her kennel to go to work for 8 hours and fight for a bathroom break....I would be a hag. I would be desperate. I would always wonder.
Even now, nothing is PERFECTLY curated to HOW I thought it would be....but, DAMN if I am not a BETTER HUMAN than I ever was before. I was so nervous to even say, “peep.” Now I can talk for hours.
I’m thankful I took a chance and worked on myself....to show others how it could be done....so they can grow as humans, too 🙌🏻🦄🌱✨

I always get asked at the checkout what I do with it😆 and have been asked by other customers as well. It’s not a common food in Canada or the US, it’s a staple food in Africa, China, Hawaii and the Caribbean. It’s also one of my staple foods, especially through the Fall and Winter season when we eat hardier foods. .
Taro is a tubular root, mainly a carb with a high fiber. It’s also a good source of antioxidants and rich nutrients such as: potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, folate, vitamins C, B6 and E. .
Next time you want a potato😝 Try Taro! I love them! They are AIP friendly and are good for gut health... unlike potatoes.

I used to love spending an hour in the kitchen cooking up something delicious every night but with a toddler that’s not realistic anymore. This recipe technically takes 8 hours to cook but it only takes 10 minutes to prep then you can set it and forget it. It’s super flavorful and the meat just falls off the bone.

It’s been close to nine months since my specialist told me I had an autoimmune disease. I remember feeling a little relief.....and a lot of confusion and sadness. All at the same time! It’s still hard to think of it as a disease, sounds so overwhelming. At the time I had no clue what to do next or how to feel better and my doctor didn’t offer much. I just knew saying no to medication was the right thing to do. .
So after many months of researching , and discovering amazing people like @angie.alt and @mickeytrescott I’ve made some big lifestyle changes. Huge changes with food, both eliminating and reintroducing, more sleep, different exercise and most of all the environment... Here’s the best part!! 😱
I finally feel like something is changing. I can’t quite put my finger on it but I know I have a little more energy to work out, my body hurts a little less, certain food seems more tolerable, and I haven’t had a headache in weeks. While I know every day is different and things can change super quick, I’m so happy to feel stronger — just for today.

My dad used to make brussel sprouts for dinner all the time. He ised to boil them until they were mush. It was torture trying to choke those things down. I went the first 30 years of my life thinking I hated brussel sprouts. Then I had them roasted and it changed my world. I just reintroduced them and couldn’t be happier. I just can’t get enough. I think a big bowl of roasted brussel sprouts may be on our thanksgiving table this year so I can share them with my dad.

When I was working at the hospital, I met one of the doctors who was doing bypass surgeries on his patients with type 2 diabetes and he also had a weight loss program.

I documented everything that was happening to his clients in the course of his 6 month weightloss program.The results were sometimes frustratingly unpredictable.

Often patients would lose weight, but some would gain weight or wouldn’t lose any weight at all. Only in 1/10 patients insulin levels stabilized!

This didn’t fit into my model of how the nutrition supposed to work.

When I started understanding biology, I believe that from our lowest level we are all exactly the same.

I wanted to figure out why we were getting these different results with these patients. I wanted to end the frustration for people who couldn’t see to achieve the results that they expected.
✨They wanted:
1. Lose weight
2. Gain freedom from disease
3. Improve memory
4. Live the rest of their life pain free and medications free.

I believe that at the lowest level of our bodies, we are nothing more than cells being operated by molecules.

The reasons why the doctor was not getting the results he wanted with some of his patients was that he didn’t quite understand the programming of the human body.

• How quickly you lose weight
• How much weight you lose
• Your resistance to disease
• How quickly you can recover from an extreme illness such an autoimmune disease!

Metabolism is everything!

Before I was diagnosed with PCOS, I wasn’t really into the whole holistic thing. Sure, I ate “healthy” and exercised but that was more appearance driven, rather than health driven. Getting diagnosed with PCOS was a heartbreaker for me, but it was actually one of the biggest gifts too.
I’ve learned to go outside my comfort zone and try SO many new things! I’ve read countless number of holistic remedies for PCOS, but Ayurveda (the sister science to yoga) has always had me intrigued. The thought of changing what you consume based on the season just made so much sense for me. Plus, it takes into account your own unique constitution!
I’m a vata so that means I need more warming things (including spices like cinnamon, ginger, and turmeric) and this golden latte really hits the spot. The recipe is on my blog (search turmeric latte). I topped off this one with cinnamon, pepper, and ginger and it tasted amazing! Not sure why I haven’t been doing that this whole time 🤣
Getting to a place mentally where I’m more concerned about my health versus my appearance has been a long one, but totally freeing. I’m not going to pretend I never have a bad day or have negative thoughts, but they’re lesser in number compared to the good ones.
