Calling all butter lovers (😥remember butter?)! Sandy from @uncommonlygoodhealth to share one of my "secret" ingredients to making my food so good. Nutiva butter flavored coconut oil @nutiva is seriously one of the foods that helped me with craving foods I choose not to eat anymore (dairy). It's made from organic, fermented gluten-free plants including coconut and mint. I used it tonight to sauté my previously cooked chicken that I'll use in the chicken/avo/sweet potato/roasted veggie/sauerkraut bowl that's for dinner tonight!

Oh my goshhhhh GUYS this was honestly SO delicious!!! Oven baked sweet potato, LOADS of avo and a fried egg 🍠🥑🍳 Ah I always feel so satisfied when there are emojis for all the food items😂 but anyway, this is a super good option for anyone who can't eat bread (or anyone who just loves sweet potato 🙈) because it gives you that satiated feel and energy but is obviously gluten and grain free 🙌 #sweetpotatofordays

I believe that deep down inside, each person knows what they truly need to change or address in their life, to overcome their obstacles or plateau, to feel less anxious, to feel happier and more complete. Where the problem I feel lies, is in speaking up about it and communicating it. We listen to all of the noise that is going on around us and then we make a decision, which is often not the one that supports what we truly want.

Today is a day that I am very proud of, because I chose to do what was right for me and my body, not for what made everyone else feel comfortable. Today marks 8 years of me making a choice for my health, to completely quit drinking alcohol. I by no means had a drinking problem, but I was a small town girl who was very social. But after having some scary health problems and needing to make some changes, I decided right there in that moment that it was a no brainer.

The unfortunate part was that everyone around me made a huge deal about my choice to not drink. In the beginning it really bothered me by how people were treating me and how unsupportive so many people were. It wasn’t until years later that I realized it actually had nothing to do with me, it was that those people had their own insecurities and it was easier for them to put those on me instead of supporting me.

If you are making a big life change right now whether that be to make your finances a priority or whatever it may be, I want you to know that you can either choose to allow the noise that is going on around you to hold you back and promote you staying stuck, or you can put your blinders on and do what you already know to be true deep down in your heart, which will support what you already know you need to be doing and focusing on. Other people are uncomfortable when you make a change to uplevel your life so they try to hold you back because it is easier for them to accept. Once you make that connection, it is much easier to follow your truth because you understand that what people are saying, was never about you in the first place.

I made this delicious bread from @thepaleomom yesterday!
A few months ago, I did the Whole 30 program and food reintroduction. I learned that my body creates an inflammatory response to not only gluten, but also oats, rice, and all other grains I've tried 🙁 I can eat them, and do on occasion, but I pay for it with bloating, and if I overindulge it also affects my breathing.

After overindulging during a recent weekend getaway, I cut out all grains but have been craving bread. Then yesterday I saw this recipe by @thepaleomom. I thought there was no way it could taste as good as it looks, but decided to give it a try. It Did. Not. Disappoint. I don't know how, but it even rose! Not only is it gorgeous all golden and warm out of the oven, the texture is dense but light and the seeds give it a nice crunch. I spent the wee hours of the morning dreaming of the many ways I will devour this loaf: plain, with sun butter and bananas, avocado toast, as a vehicle for hummus, the list goes on... #paleobread

Dinner on the go raw vegan style! Here's what I got for ya wrapped up in there: alfalfa sprouts/bean sprouts as a base, fresh avocado slices on top, to make it pop I got some mango salsa made with mango, pineapple, cilantro, onion, a lil bit of black pepper, and lime💥This is how we roll wild style. SO flavorful, and so easy. I threw these in a takeout box and was on with my business . Try it out sometime! 👌🏽

Reading dense textbooks is more fun with pretty highlighters 🎨. I've been in school since 9am, took a fun tie dye break with the med school art club, and now am back to reading about bleeding disorders. I'll probably be at school until 7 for a meeting, so it's a looooong day. Hope you all are having a great hump say! #sweetenedbynature

On Day 1️⃣0️⃣ of the Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP for short), and it's been easier than I expected. The hardest part has been breakfast. Take away my eggs and overnight oats and avocado toast, and I'm a lost girl. 😱If I have to eat one more sweet potato hash for breakfast, I might throw my skillet out the window.

Coconut and fruit aren't supposed to be a huge part of your diet while doing AIP, but in moderation, it's fine. And today, I cashed in all my chips for a bowl of coconut "oatmeal". It's coconut milk, coconut flakes, cinnamon, salt, water, and a mashed banana. Plus topped with berries, coconut, and spreadable strawberries I canned last year (just strawberries, apple juice, and pectin). It hit the spot—although after weeks of not a lot of sweet foods, this bowl tasted like someone dropped 5 pounds of sugar in the pot!

Overall, I am feeling better, although I pushed it a little too hard yesterday and didn't sleep well last night, so today, in particular, I feel like hell. Still no idea what's wrong with me (more bloodwork today 💉), but I'm doing all I can to heal myself without a diagnosis. 💕

Day 17: My meal before a heavy lift day @crossfitmindset this afternoon. Homemade pork sausage with @primalpalate breakfast blend and smoked salt, fresh spring mix greens dressed in olive oil and lemon juice and plantains fried in coconut oil. ⠀

I work out best on little to no food. Any sort of metcon tends to makes me sluggish and pukey. But this week is a heavy lift week and that means I get to fuel up to stand relatively still and pick up some heavy shit and put it back down. That means pre-workout carb ups, which are my damn favorite. So much so that I used to do carb ups late at night, when I was sad and lonely. ⠀

My body is thanking me for this delicious lunch! It's got everything I need to thrive.
Proteins and fat from the chicken strips, antioxidants, fibre and betacarontene from sweet potatoes, 70% of the Vitamin C I need in a day from the cauli-rice, iodine from wakame flakes, sulphur from mushrooms, healthy fats from sunflower seeds, and a myriad of phytonutrients from Kale.
This what I call a nutritionally dense meal!

The weather is unreal today🌿 The trees are blowing around like crazy 🌙 To warm myself up I made some homemade ginger + tumeric tea. Ginger is amazing for digestion and tumeric is a great anti inflammatory🌀 The perfect tea for gut issues and viral infections👌🏼Ginger is also great for sickness because it warms up the body! Today was the first fall-like day we've had in my part of northern California. Fall is my favorite, so I loved the weather! Naturally, dinner needed to be warm and cozy. Instant Pot chicken and veggie soup (with turmeric, because I'm trying to add plenty of that magic into my life) and paleo dinner rolls. So yummy and comforting.

This photo was taken a while back on a road trip, before I was ready to give up cacao. Chocolate was the last thing I gave up this year. It's one of my food sensitivities (i.e. my immune system and gut react negatively to cacao) and the food I craved most. It was so darn difficult to give it up! Want to know why? Well, when your immune system reacts to a food, it initiates an inflammatory response. This inflammatory response can create a temporary high, a sense of well being if you will. Weird right? You'd think a food that didn't agree with you would feel icky right away. Not necessarily, as you now know. And who doesn't want to feel good 😊? Especially when stressed or low. See how the psychological and behavioral realms can also intersect the body's physical/physiological response? So there you have it, sometimes cravings can be caused by a food sensitivity.
