Five years ago, I had to leave a family function because my 9 yr old Anthony was hot and overwhelmed by noise and just couldn’t take it anymore. He wanted so desperately to play with the kids but he just couldn’t deal with the chaos. Autism is brutal like that sometimes. We both cried the whole way home.
When we reached our neighborhood, he screamed for for me to pull over. With tearful eyes and an aching heart, I watched as he plucked a dandelion from the ground and listened as he made his wish in a quiet, yet earnest voice... “I wish I could be a friend.” This is a small part of my daughter Evie’s Senior Graduation Project. She wanted to illustrate how much artists are influenced by their environments and experiences. The love shared between my children is the greatest source of joy and pride of my life. **All of the drawings and digital art are Evie’s own work. The piano you hear is Anthony playing Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata. The photo is an actual photo I took at the moment anthony made his wish.
The many faces of #autism. My daughter is smart, happy, social, funny, compassionate, empathetic, loving, and creative. We’ve heard so many times that #autistic kids aren’t this, or can’t do that. Fuck that. Raise your kids not living in fear of what THEY say your kids won’t do. Raise them to be the bright, shining INDIVIDUALS they will be. Keep the faith. #AutismKids#AutismFamily#AutismAwareness#SpecialNeeds#IGAutism ❤️💙❤️💙

~ It’s not easy to describe the experience of raising a child with special needs. From the outside, it may look challenging and stressful. But in the heart of a parent, it is a wonderful experience of evolution and personal growth.
Parents of kids with special needs don’t see a disability when they look at their kids. Instead, they see the most precious and wonderful blessing of their lives ~ x I found this online not long ago and it really spoke to my heart 💙 I wouldn’t change a thing about Ivy because she is truly amazing and has taught me so many wonderful things x @this_wonderful_life_x . 📷 by @spectrum_inspired . *DM us to be featured 😘 Tag your friends! 📍 .
