Today's Sunday dinner... A magnum ice cream
A bite of an almond tart
A handful of grapes
In that order... That might shock some people, what parent would let their child eat an ice cream at the start of their dinner?
This one 😊
Jude is at his happiest eating when he is allowed to choose what he wants, and when he can graze, buffet style. He'll combine mouthfuls of pear with sausage. Switch from a bite of ice cream, straight to his potatoes.
And that would probably sound weird to a lot of people. But who decided there had to be an order in how we should eat our food, or what foods should go together?
Jude used to be a really fussy eater, now he has such a varied diet compared to a few years ago. And one of the key changes...our attitude.
Once I stoped being so stressed about the foods he was eating, reduced the demands on him, and allowed him to experiment, things gradually began to improve.
Trying to 'make' him eat foods just didn't work. All it did was make him more anxious, probably lead to a meltdown, and end with him not eating anything.
So I'm totally at ease with him choosing to eat an ice cream first. I know he enjoys the sausage, potatoes and fruit, and that in his own time he'll eat that too.
How did your Sunday dinner go today? ❤️
