BE STILL 🧘‍♀️
True or false? It's harder to be still than to move.... It's harder to "just be" than to do, do. do 🐵
.
Who would have thought that doing nothing could be harder than doing all the things? 🙃
.
The deeper I dive down the Yin Yoga rabbit hole of stillness, reconnecting and knowing thyself, the more I see and experience how necessary and transformational it is to become still and really be with ourselves 💕
.
Crazy, fast-paced modern life needs some chill time. The to-do list needs to be balanced out with the not-to-do list 😬
.
When I teach I see how challenging it can be for many people to be still. When I practice at home, I see how challenging it can be for me to be still. When I practice in class, I see how challenging it can be for me to still the mind.
.
Quite often a challenge can be perceived as physically or emotionally pushing ourselves past an edge, but in this case, the challenge is to be still. The challenge is in being still enough to see our "stuff." To sit with our shadow and the aspects of ourselves we may not like.
.
Through yoga, especially Yin (I feel), we can gain deeper insight into who we are, if we are open and willing to notice. And it’s from this place of expanded awareness that we can live more consciously, happily and peacefully, in our relationships, with ourselves and in many aspects of life 🙏

Smiling through the difficulty of day 3 of #GetThatPoseYogi 😅
Super soldier - fun to learn and try but wow is it difficult! These were my first attempts ever! Quite proud with this result but I now know I need to work on my forward fold and all things hammys, my shoulders (which cracked during this attempt lol) and my spinal twists. Kudos to this awesome yogis who can do this pose 👏🏼👏🏼

Do you ever feel like giving up on a work or life venture? Read this! 🙃

I’ve been reflecting on my journey running women’s circles.
.
I remember my first 6 months. I started out with a weekly circle and the most challenging part was to get women there. I was never one for self-promotion, marketing and all those things. This seems to be a common theme in this heart-centred space.
.
I looked forward to circle each week, but what I didn't look forward to was continuing to feel this lingering weight on my shoulders to fill the spaces.
.
A few times I only had 1, 2 or 3 women come along.... and one time no one showed up. This did not feel good at all, and in fact, it brought up a lot of my "stuff", questioning what I was doing, my value, worth, etc.
.
But you know what? Amongst all the discomfort, I learned and grew so much. I continued to share valuable content authentically from my own experience. I focused on connection. When I didn't want to show up, I reminded myself that it isn't about me, it is about those I can serve. I promised myself that I would always show up, even if no one else did. I still do all these things.
.
Fast forward over a year later, things have been building + are becoming more consistent. I have 2 monthly circles, one is more established and has been filling up the last couple months, and the other is on it's way. Online circles are on the near horizon too.
.
I could have given up, found it too hard, but I choose to continue to show up, grow + expand within myself, which not only gives me strength to move forward, it also allows me to upgrade my offerings for the women/you, many of whom continue to come back.
.
I am no expert, nor do I have years of experience doing this, and I am forever learning, building and growing, but I am getting there (wherever "there" is). I have the curiosity and drive to keep learning + expanding. I have the heart, strength, authenticity + determination to show up. Collaboration helps a lot -we’re stronger together!
.

Day 2 of #GetThatPoseYogi is wheel pose 😊
Thought I’d try and straighten my legs and this is as good as they get. Still yet to work out how to fully get onto my forearms, and more importantly, back out of forearm wheel hahaha.
Now to figure out how on earth to do super soldier for tomorrow 🧐

This is as bendy as I am in this pose but the fact I had 3 slices of pizza before yoga probs didn’t help 😂🍕
But it felt so good to stretch and do some mini flows (sun sals) again ☀️

We usually offer this blessing at the end of a yoga class, and only recently, I found out that Mum has been saying it all her life, as it is also a general way of greeting others in Hindi.

Loving how yoga has so fittingly and not surprisingly become such a big part of my life. Mum was born and grew up in India, but never crossed into the world of yoga. One day I will get to the Motherland and I know it will be even more meaningful than ever! Familial heritage AND Yoga 🧘‍♀️❤️

I HAVE TO GO
This post relates to yesterday’s post about busyness.
.
“I have to go.” “I need to go.” 🙉
.
How many times do you say this in your day? Recently I caught myself many times during my day, saying one of these two things.
.
Hmmm.... busy rushing again. Busy being distracted or moving to the next thing on the “to do” list 🤦‍♀️
.
Do we always really “have to go” or “need to go”, or can we sit with our loved one for an extra 30 minutes? Could we be with ourselves in stillness for another 20 minutes? Could we slow down and give someone our full presence for a while longer instead of rushing off to the next place?
.
Yes we have work and schedules and commitments, but can we be more conscious around planning and organising so that it doesn’t greatly impact our presence, connections and potential for valuable experiences?
.
Is everything really that important and urgent that it can’t wait and takes precedence over a deeper connection with loved ones? Heartfelt conversations. Being fully present for others. Deeper connection with ourselves. Laughing endlessly and evoking joy 💕
.
What is most important, precious and memorable at the end of the day? At the end of life?
.
What experiences and connections are we running so quickly away from?
.
Do you really “have to go” or “need to go” or can you flip that? What if you caught yourself in the rushing off and then said out loud or internally, “I need to stay.” What would/could happen?? Hmmm... I wonder 🙃🤔

I used to bristle at the question, “Are you ok?” It felt intrusive, confronting and almost rude. Why couldn’t they just ask, “How are you?” Then the answer would roll easily off my tongue. And I had many answers. Many escape hatches. No need to toss out a dismissive “Yes” or tell the truth.
.
Now I understand the quiet power of, “Are you ok?” and why those who really cared refused to give me an easy way out.
.
In Australia, asking someone “How’s it going?” is so rote that sometimes the answer precedes the question. There have been many times when my “Good morning” has been reciprocated with a “Yea, good thanks!” No one is asking and no one is listening - not even to themselves.
.
If you’re really want to know how someone is, be genuinely invested in their answer. Don’t ask them how they are; ask if they’re ok and be ready for a possible “no.”
.
Sometimes it’s only by asking #ruok that we realise how close someone is to rock bottom.

UN-BUSY 🧘‍♂️
Lately I have been asking myself continuously, how can I do less? How can I shift my state of so much doing, closer to my true nature of being? How can I be less busy? How can I be un-busy?
.
Modern life seems to perpetuate this constant busy-ness. @tarabrach calls it a trance 😴😳
.
In women's circle the other night, we explored some of the ways that we have become so disconnected from each other, and what is stopping us from being able to connect more deeply with those that we love. It was powerful.
.
The next morning I woke up and had a realisation that I already knew, but I forgot. I realised how disconnected I had become, not only from others, but from myself... getting caught up in busyness, social media, technology and many other distractions that take me out of presence.
.
I realised in order to be able to connect more deeply with others, I needed to reconnect with myself 🙏
.
So I became un-busy for the next 5 days. No doing work stuff (except teaching yoga classes), no social media posting, no computer, minimal phone, and instead just focusing on my self care practices that fill my cup and allow me to feel good and reconnect with me.
.
Re-committing to my yoga practice which got lost in the last few weeks, spending time in nature, meditation, playing my flute, Kalimba and Tank Drum, being still, doing nothing, writing poetry, fasting 🌿🎵😍
.
Oh my goodness, what a difference this has made.
.
Can you relate? Do you always need to be busy? Is it necessary? Can you step out of the trance and reconnect? ❤️

NOT GOOD ENOUGH 🙈
This seems to be a universal story that each of us shares, which manifests in a variety of ways that stem from our own unique experiences. This underlying core belief subconsciously influences and affirms our behaviours and perceptions of self.
.
Know this.... You are not alone in thinking you are "not good enough" because of this or because of that...
.
This is a continual work in progress for me, and although it has lessened significantly as I walk this path of Self discovery, expansion and re-remembering, my ego still wants to keep me safe and holds me back with these stories at times. Awareness is powerful to shift the hold this can potentially have on us.
.
Here are some of mine that I am aware of...
.
⭕ Not good enough to teach yoga because my own practice is not highly advanced (NOT TRUE)
.
⭕ Not good enough to be friends with this person or that person (NOT TRUE)
.
⭕ Questioning what value I bring in certain relationships/friendships (NOT TRUE)
.
⭕ Who am I to do what I do? (NOT TRUE)
.
⭕ Unlovable - who would be interested in me? (NOT TRUE)
.
⭕️ I don’t belong here (insert group or place here) (NOT TRUE)
.
⭕ Not worthy to receive..... (insert whatever here) (NOT TRUE)
.
On the flip-side, majority of the time, consciously, I am strong and confident. I don't give a fuck. I know who I am, who I'm not, my value and how great I am (not in an egoic way, just a knowing that none of these stories are true). It's the subconscious programming that gets in the way sometimes 🤦‍♀️And this can be shifted 🙌🙌
.
Can you relate? Know that these stories and perceptions you may have about yourself are actually NOT TRUE. Know that you are amazing, just as you are ❤️
