🤩After I completed my #Bachelor of Human Services (Human Behaviour) degree qualification it only took a few weeks in my new place of employment to realise that I needed specific #trauma training. My #university degree despite it being amazing, did not provide me with specific knowledge and skills to work with #developmental and adult trauma. ..
.. 👨👩👧👦Isn’t it shocking that I don’t know any #psychologist, counselling qualification which does? Shouldn’t it be standard and essential that any practitioner should have the skills to work with the involuntary brain and body trauma responses? Do you also know in Australia anyone can say they’re a #Counsellor?! ..
.. 🤩Sure my university study covered topics of #abuse, #addiction, #mentalillness but not how to work with it and what happens in the brain and body in trauma. So we could talk ‘about’ it but not help #heal the trauma. Plus there was inadequate training on all these areas. Many practitioners don’t know that insight is a different branch of the brain then where the interrupted #neuralpathways are. So you need to know how to get to these neural pathways and not set off the involuntary #defencesystem that doesn’t want you to go there. ..
.. 🤩This is why I created a #petition to stop the wasteful money on the useless #auspolitics #safetyhubs. We need skilled practitioners who have the ability to discern and assess for trauma and abuse. Ask #survivors of their experience of therapists ability to identify abuse, it’s poor. Often #clients think because their trauma was no fun that therapy will be gruelling. But a skilled therapist can identify your trauma pattern, defence system and provide what you need, so instead of bracing and dreading therapy, therapy can be a time of #relief and progress. ..
.. 👨👩👧👦This is why I run online live training with practitioners - counsellors, psychologists, #doctors, #lawyers, #judges, #police, #hairdressers, #teachers, #naturopaths, and more, and a 5 day #retreat to deepen knowledge and skills. Contact me to know more. ..
