The goals of training
1️⃣Most importantly...no injuries should occur in training. The goal should be to get them onto the field of play or just be able to live pain free! Sure accidents happen, but with intelligent progression and training the risk of injury in the weight room should be low.
2️⃣Train to prevent injury...you can’t prevent all injuries, but you can make someone more resilient and able to handle more before they do hurt themselves.
3️⃣Lastly, athletes should train to improve performance. Sure this is what “pays the big bucks” but it shouldn’t be the primary focus. That is why it is last on the list. After injury risk in the weight room has been negated and you have focused on making the person more resilient, now we worry about performance.
