Experimenting today with a contrast set (PAP) utilising split squat pin pull isometrics as the force producing component and split squat jumps as the velocity focused component.
The pin pull isometrics serve primarily to increase motor unit recruitment at the specific joint angles whilst increasing nervous system activation, whilst the split squat jumps will have a heightened level of neural drive associated to the working muscles due to the prior potentiation of the pin pull isometric, meaning, a faster and more explosive muscular contraction.
Additional benefit to this contrast set is the stability demands/motor learning on landing from the split squat jumps. .

This photo is maybe from last year? Back when it was important to me that I be able to easily place the palms of my hands on the ground and fold deeply over my legs. My forward folds are no longer this deep. My body tightened quite a bit after pregnancy and although I enjoyed that level of freedom of movement, it's not so much a priority anymore. I mean, was that level of flexibility making me a better climber? A better person? No. ⠀

Of course, some level of flexibility has it's benefits, but the priority now is balance. Creating a body that is balanced. Strength and flexibility. Muscular balance, functional whole body strength, proper joint and muscle flexibility, and mental strength and flexibility. Being tight in the right areas is actually required to perform your sport well. In other words, too much flexibility can hinder your performance.⠀

So, on I will go with my yoga practice with a focus on balance between strength and flexibility. Ya, I might achieve this depth again, but it's not something I'm actively trying to achieve. Whatever happens, happens. The journey begins...
