When I was leaving for Zion the weather forecast called for thunderstorms and mostly cloudy skies, and for most of my trip this remained to be true. I was so discouraged but whst can you do? Finally after waiting 3 days I got clear skies. I arrived to this iconic location at dusk and waited for the stars to come out. Such a difficult place to shoot. Constant cars driving by, even at 12am. Then dealing with the crowd of photographers who didn't know how to be courteous, flashing there bright red lights all over, thinking it dosen't affect peoples shots but it does. Also whenever your shooting, give a heads up and ask kindly to the group if anyone's shutters still open before you turn your 1000 candle power torch on. Then there's always that 1 annoying know-it-all guy, (we've all delt with) who wouldn't shut up. Talking in photography slang and thinks he's Ansel Adams and knows everything. No one cares that you know every detail about photography, we don't think your cool. It wasn't a pleasant experience but I came away with something I'm happy with. I shot the foreground with a 2 minute exposure and the sky with a 15 second exposure then blended them.

PANORAMA

This is shot from my last night out. I've been wanting to try a 180 degree panorama of the milky way and my first attempt on this night hasn't worked. I hadn't captured enough sky above the milky way and it looked like the milky way had hit the ceiling giving it a flat top. Its a shame as the image looked awesome otherwise and i'll definitely be going back to nail it asap.
Thankfully on the journey home i stopped at a popular tourist photo point at Devils staircase to make the pano. Was such a good feeling to see it had worked after the stitch. Its not the most amazing composition for the foreground but i'm happy just to see that big arcing milky way and excited to do more.
18 shot pano.
Nikon D610,
Samyang 14mm,

20 second exposure.

Thanks for the memories, Denver. I couldn't have asked for a better home over the past 6 years. Time to head to Minnesota for a bit as we wait to pick up our Samoyed pup and Sprinter van ✌🏻#newadventures

Near Mount Pinos, California. Congratulations to Kevin Greene. “Here's my favorite shot from Friday's Milky Way adventure with @xrissvlad and @alex.sphoto. Huge shoutout to @xrissvlad for finding this composition and for the lighting assist. We got yelled at by the campers at the campsite, but it was well worth it. Those red dots scattered throughout the path are wildflowers, says Kevin! || Please show support to our guest artists by visiting their IG gallery.

TECH stuff: a single 30" exposure with the Rokinon 14mm f/2.4 on the Canon 6D shot at ISO 6400, f/2.8 .
-
MORE from Royce: I’m getting a little bored with night selfies (the ones holding a flashlight, with the beam into the sky), but this one really caught my eye. Nice job, Kevin! .

Urano

Possiede 27 satelliti.

This is me playing around on the bizarre starlit landscape of this remote area of northern Arizona. You can't really see it in this image, but I'm up on the rock formation holding a small lantern; I liked how my 21mm Zeiss lens gives such a nice little "sunstar" even at f/2.8. I had actually hoped to capture a reflection of the Milky Way in the pond, but it was breezy and there were several good sized frogs in the pond that kept stirring up the reflection on the water's surface. I wasn't going to evict those little guys just to get my shot, so I settled for what you see here. Best wishes to my little froggy friends; glad we could share a few moments together under the stars. 🐸✌️
EXIF: 21mm, f/2.8, 15 seconds, ISO 6400, Sony A7rii

Out here doing photography shit in the freezing cold, trying to capture one of the insanely many meteor's from Delta Aquarids, @_tylerfaulkner @ventxr and @thejubawuki are doing star trails so I'm hell keen to see there work, it's awesome coming out on nights as clear as we've been having with the boys, beats sitting out here alone that's for damn sure!! 30sec f/3.5 ISO 6400.

I'm constantly trying to find new and creative foregrounds for my Milky Way photos and last night was a struggle. After driving around Rangeley for an hour trying to find the perfect spot the Rangeley Lakes Airport was the final destination. A calm and cool evening allowed for a stunning display. 7.25.17
