Because she was 14 years old (12 of those together), I have thought about what it would be like to share this kind of news a few times. I was repeatedly amazed at her ability to recuperate and keep giving it all 100% tail wags, down to the very. last. minute...which is why it's epsecially hard to come to terms with...and although I've imagined it... writing it out feels abysmally surreal. I had to make a difficult decision this Saturday after a sudden health turn. Lola passed away quietly and sweetly in my arms, still giving kisses until she couldn't hold her head up anymore, mirroring the night I first met her. I can make this post a million miles long but it would still come short of explaining how much this creature meant to me. I rescued her but it's much the other way around. To have the privilege to love a dog and have their love in return is a gift I will spend forever sharing, with gratitude to her in every breath. Thank you to anyone who ever pet her, walked her, watched her, bought her a toy or gave her a treat. All she ever wanted was someone to bring a ball to and get a rub down from, and you all helped me love her better. My final note- if you are considering become a new dog owner, please rescue. Go to the ASPCA or the kill shelter in Harlem where Lola was from, or your local pound, and make a decision you will forever be proud of and humbled by. Wishing everyone long walks, belly rubs, and naps bathed in living room floor sun puddles.
Lola, you've been a good girl.
